Gift certificate to any store that sells teacher's items such as supplies and such. Teachers spend so much of their own money on classroom items, this would always be appreciated. Oh, and anything like a gift certificate from Target. EVERYONE LOVES TARGET.

Prior to being a mom I was a teacher...we had some of the greatest parents in our room throughout the years. Coffee mugs, potpourri and pens are overdone and truly don't get used. The idea for a gift card for Target or somewhere that they can purchase school supplies or things for the classroom is a GREAT idea. I've got friends who teach in the public schools and since supplies are short they spend a lot of money out of pocket.

If you want something that the teacher can actually use gift cards to a department store or a restaurant are always welcome. One year I got a package of a gift card/movie tickets and it was a great night out for my husband and I. I also received a certificate for a manicure/pedicure one year, that was high on my list of favorite gifts. Starbucks cards were also always welcome, especially since it helped take a dent out of my weekly coffee budget!

Extravagant doesn't always mean it will be a better gift, although I've seen parents compete to see who gets the teacher a better gift you know your child's teacher and you can pick what you think is the right gift.

Please do not buy this poor teacher another apple paper weight or "#1 Teacher" coffee mug. As a teacher, I rec'd so many of these gifts over the years. I feel horrible when they end up in a box or given away.

The best gifts I have recevied are:
A gift certifcate for a day at a Spa (the whole class did this together)

A mall shopping spree (again a whole class gift). It was a $350 gift card and was very welcomed at the holidays.

Movie certificates

The best present for a teacher is a gift card where they can buy supplies for their class. Teachers don't get paid much and spend a lot of money of their own to provide supplies for the classroom. Be generous with your teacher.. they are more than generous with your children!

I have been an assistant to a wonderful teacher this year. She spends a LOT of her own money on supplies and things for her class. I bought her a gift card to the local office supply store, because she goes there atleast once a week. I did some research, for my own child's teacher a gift... They have plenty of teacher type gifts, gift certificates that they would normally, not just go and blow money on were suggested. Like the movies, restuarants, and salons for pedicures and manicures. Hope this is helpful.

I hate to sound cliche, but it really is the thought that counts. I am a teacher, and I have gotten a variety of gifts from students. Some are items I won't necessarily use, but I always appreciate the thought behind it.

If you want to give something that you know will be useful, gift cards are always great.

I imagine if you are giving this teacher a present he or she is a good one, so write a note expressing your gratitude and what you've learned, how you were influenced, and so on. Just let the teacher know how he or she is appriciated. That means a lot to an educator. I've taught music and nothing meant more to me then what my students took with them when they left my class. The price of a gift doesn't matter, it's the thought that was behind it.

give a card. inside tell them one instance where they did something good. Perhaps they "reached" you, said or did a kind thing, gave a great illustration or lesson, or presented it in a particularly good way.

If they are a "problem teacher" cast one of their difficult areas in a good light, to give them confidence to work on that area of their life/teaching technique/style.

They will remember this gift for the remainder of their life, and you will have done something that the best teachers are aiming to do: leave a valuable impact on another's life

A movie gift card. Working with kids all day a teacher needs a night out. Or even like a resturant gift card ( a resturant that has a bar)

Try giving your teacher a gift card. That way they can pick out whatever they want.

But as a teacher, I would give a gift card for Dunkin Donuts if they like coffee.

When I was a kid we would get our teacher a coffee mug with something school oriented on it, then we would fill it with candy and put a small dollar amount gift card in it (optional). The candy would be wrapped in tissue with a bow at the top.
My dad is a teacher in the public schools, he teaches music. Our entire Christmas tree at his house if filled with ornaments from students, they are all music related. That is just another idea I guess.
