People kill themselves because they have the illness: Depression. For whatever reason, the levels of certain chemicals in their brain have gotten too low.
Sometimes there are psychological problems that cause this, sometimes there isn't.
What do you mean by identity? I'm not being sarcastic. I'm asking in case you feel like you don't have an identity. If you always do what you think other people expect you do do, I can understand that feeling.
The way to change that is to start doing what you think is the best thing to do in the circumstance. I don't know how old you are. If you are under 18 y/o and living at home, you need to take into account what your parents believe is the best thing to do.
If you are worried about whether you will commit suicide, you need to talk to your parents or doctor ASAP and get professional help for this.

I think people kill themselves for all kinds of reasons. However, I do believe that loss of identity might be a factor in some of the cases. In fact, I think loss of identity is a very big factor in mental illness in general.
The way back to mental health is to either regain one's identity or to construct a new one.

What a sad concept!
There is an Italian song called "Miserere" which basically means a person in misery. The song is about a man who is in constant twilight. He want to either be allowed to return to the full light of day or to delve into total darkness. Your question reminded me of that song. I am not sure why.

Yes some people may kill themselfs cause they feel they don't have an identity. They feel that no one has noticed that they are even alive, so they go out and take their life. Everyone is noticed, if you know it or not, so please do not go out and kill yourself.

People kill themselves for whatever reason. But the reason behind is mostly they felt helpless. they felt nobody can help or care them when they are sad, actually they never asked for help also.
