If they hurt while jogging you can try the strap below the knee.... less stress on the knee. If they only hurt when climbing up stairs ... it is worn out cartiledge..... age makes the difference!!!! Jog on ..... loose the weight!

If you are experiencing pain, not just soreness, it is probably the result of one or more of the following:
1) You ran too fast
2) You ran too far
3) You have bio-mechanical problems.

If you haven't run in months and you tried to run near your old distance or your old pace, then it's probably number 1 or 2. If you took it real easy with both pace and distance, then it's probably number 3.

If you have biomechanic problems, you might still be able to run. You might need orthotics or to do some specific strengthening exercises or just need shoes with a specific type of support. I would suggest doing a consult with a podiatrist who knows runners - or at the very least, have the pros at the local running store do a gait analysis on you.

it can be both.. .did you warm up before you jog? or maybe you gained weight or because of the cold weather.. if it hurts so bad, see a doctor..
