A 12 year old shouldn't have to lose weight but my 9 & 13 year old nieces definately need to lose weight, so I won't give you that trite "You're too young to worry about such things" answer.
Instead, I would want to ask you where you got the idea you needed to lose weight? Have you spoken to a doctor or the school nurse? Or do you just want to look like a model?
Don't be fooled by the unrealist body image out there these days. Make sure a health care professional says you need to loose weight before you go on any diet.
But you can't do any harm either way by exercising & eating healthy. Sodas aren't exactly good for anyone, skinny, fat or normal. Same with candy & chips. Hardly anyone in America these days eats enough fruits vegitables & fiber (in whole grains.)
And start rollerblading or some other activity like that. Go outside & play catch with the dog instead of playing on the XBox all day.
Be healthy! ; )

Watch the portions of food that you eat. You can have foods that you like but not as much. A portion is about the size of a deck of cards. Make sure you eat 3 meals a day of good healthy food in proper portions.
Cut out the junk food but be realistic. It's ok to have a cookie now and then but don't over do it. You don't want to starve yourself ever!
Exercise -- just keep moving. don't sit around in front of the TV.. go do stuff, play outside, help your mom around the house. It will keep you active and take your mind off of food.
Check out Weight Watchers. They're great for helping you with healthy eating habits to help you lose weight safely.
Good luck to you!

Hi! I am 10 but a lot of my teachers say i am pretty smart for my age! So if you want you can listen but if you do not then do not:
Well is you want to lose weight you should go on walks or go to a gym. I asked the same question but people said to go to the gym. Also swimming is a very good weigh to lose weight. I play swimming and tennis so find a sport that you would like and play it. Also dont go and starve yourself, just find good foods.

I'm 18, and I'm trying to lose weight, too. What works for me is to stay active and try to eat balanced meals (I have a tough time with that) and control my portions. Any doctor will tell you that this is the healthiest way to get in shape and lose weight.
To stay active, find a sport you like or an activity you like that gets you moving. Maybe you could play a sport at school, or do intramurals. You could ask your parents to take you to the park with your friends so you can go for a walk or play soccer, basketball, volleyball, etc. Doing things with friends is always more fun, and playing on a team often means making new friends. Try different things until you find something you like, and once you find something, do it regularly-- a few times a week.
As for food, this is where it gets tricky. You should get plenty of grains (bread, crackers, rice, potatoes, cereal-- unsugared, like Cheerios-- etc). Fruits and veggies are also a must. Crrot or celery sticks or a piece of fruit, like an apple or a banana, make great snacks. You can ask your parents to buy these things for you, and you can ask them to make sure they cook veggies that you like at dinner. Again, trying different things is important-- you won't eat it if you don't like it! You also need at least a glass or two of milk a day, or a dairy product, like cheese or yogurt. Lastly, make sure you get protein, like from meats and poultry, like chicken and turkey. You can also get protein from peanuts and peanut butter. You can mix and match your favorite foods from all these categories to make balanced meals. Maybe you can even try cooking with your parents. It's fun. And last but not least, cut back on junk food, like cookies, potato chips and ice cream (my weakness!). These things contain a lot of fat!
As far as protions, just pay attention to how full you feel when you eat. Rate your hunger on a scale of 1 to 5, 1 being starving and 5 being stuffed. At the end of a meal, you chould feel like you're at about a 4.
And finally, the best thing you can do for yourself is to love your body. I don't know your height and weight, but you say you need to lose weight. The important thing is to be healthy, not skinny. Talk to your doctor about what a healthy weight is for you, and whether or not you are technically overweight. A lot of girls think they are fat when they're not at all! Not having seen you, I don't know if that's true. But girls who think they need to lose weight when they don't can end up with eating disorders like anorexia and bulemia, both of which are very dangerous. Here are some DON'Ts:
DON'T skip meals. This makes you feel more hungry and eat more later. Not to meantion if you do it often, your body gets used to having less food and you stop losing weight. In fact, your body will start to store MORE than it did before!
DON'T make yourself throw up. It's SOOO bad for your body! You want to be healthy, remember?
DON'T compare how you look to other girls. That's something my boyfriend taught me. If you constantly compare yourself to how other people look (she's prettier, or, she's so skinny), you'll never be happy with yourself.
Good luck, doll! I know this was very long, but i hope it helped.
