Soak them in hot water. This soreness is due to an acid that forms in your muscles after you exersise more than usual. Hot water will increase the blood flow to your sore muscles and that will help to carry away that stuff naturally. Massage and rubbing would help too, but that would hurt too much.

There are a number of reasons for post-run soreness but the most common is just a result of natural muscle damage which is part of the growth process as you train.

Since your muscles are inflamed from activity, you should cool them. Many runners take an icebath or run the shower on cold against their legs. Do not use heat or massage during this early stage as those have the potential to increase the damage/inflammation. The next day you can do some light massage, I like The Stick since I can just roll it against my calves. You can also use either heat or cold on your calves after the first 24 hours.

Soak them in warm water. Eat a banana and drink an extra glass of water every day to ease cramps. Stretch your legs out by sitting down and reaching for your toes. Massage your calves using a hot water pack. Don't exercise your legs again until they heal, or you won't build back the muscle you broke down, thus not benefiting you anyway.

Are you stretching them daily? If I exercise a lot but neglect the stretches, I get sore calves. Make sure you have rest days for your calves to recover from exercise. More water and more protein might help too, your muscles need both.

Soak in warm water with epsom salt. Massage them gently. It will hurt to touch but massaging breaks up the lactic acid so your circulatory system can get rid of it.
