I wish to know whether cancellation of tickets by the passengers in Indian Railways is being updated or not. I am surprised to find that no change of my ticket status is seen on checking in the internet. As it is difficult to travel without reservation with old aged persons, at least two days in advance prior to the date of journey date the status of ticket may be known to the commuters for making the arrangements and to confirm the programme.

Krishan,
WL status don't change in many cases untill last 1-2 days.
Generally 10-13 WL will be cleared in last 2-3 days unless quote is too small for your station.(Then it still have chance to clear from open quote)
For many originating station its very common to clear WL up to 100-150.

if you can specify the train & Starting station you will get better answer from people.

In general 10-13 WL in 2nd Sleeper & ACCC class is not a problem but it can be problem in AC3T & AC2T.

That happens. You have not informed which sector you are travelling by. Please note that currently there are other agencies which are offering ticket booking on indian railways besides irctc.co.in. Many a times before the booking opens the tickets are sold out within minutes. Many of the tickets are taken up by travel agents and wont be released till the last minute. If it is frequently travelled sector and the wait list line is huge the railways always add a boggie to accomodate.

1 week before the travel date you will get a clear idea!

It might be that the railroad co. has not opened new spaces for your reservation to go through, or it might be that the system hasn't upgraded it. Talk with your travel agency or directly with Indian Railways and ask them if they can verify if they can confirm your waitlisted segments.

Good luck!
