Le is the article for masculine in French. La is the article to signify feminine. Hopefully this helps.

Le is the masculine (boy) and la is the feminine (girl). I remember in college for my oral exam I just kind of slurred each one and still got an A. Drinking a half bottle of Merlot before the exam also helped for some reason as well.

In Spanish, "la" is female. I know nothing about French, but suspect it's the same.
