Romans 4
18Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, "So shall your offspring be."[d] 19Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah's womb was also dead. 20Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, 21being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.

I know the whole story, as far as we have it. I think that you asked this question before. Yes it makes perfect sense. Something strange was happening to humans in those days, I think that Abraham knew about it. They were growing old sooner. Abraham lived in those times when there were still people from the before flod time. Shem the son of Noah is said to be none other than Melchizedek. He was still alive, and if Shem was Melchizedek, then he taught Abram about God, NOT Abram's father who was into idolatry.
So Abraham was taught about God and had to learn to trust Him. I think that part of what it is that you are saking is that you are not making your question clear. If I haven't answered it yet, between this time and the last time I answered it, you probably need to accentuate your question better.
I, to continue answering, also am persuaded tht God can keep His promises. So that's just seems like a non issue.
Summary: What are you trying to get at?

God had made Abraham a promise, this is an example that believing in faith in the promises of God, it will happen, no matter the apparent impossibility. Is anything too hard for God?

God told Abraham to leave Ur and move to a land He would show him,for as He said:"I shall make a great nation out of you"(Gen.12:1-4)Later,God enlarged on His promise,saying,"You wil certainly become a father of a crowd of nations.......and I will make you very very fruitful and will make you become nations,and kings will come out of you."(Gen.17:1-6)This promise was fulfilled.Abraham's son Ishmael fathered 'twelve cheiftains according to their clans'(Gen.25:13-16;17:20;
21:13,18),and through the six sons of Keturah,other nations traced their ancestry back to Abraham.(Gen.25:1-4;
1Ch.1:28-33;Rom.4:16-18).From Abraham's son Isaac sprang the Israelites and Edomites.(Gen.25:21-26).In a much larger,spiritual sense Abraham became "a father of many nations" for persons of many national groups,including those of the Christian congregation in Rome,by reason of their faith and obedience could call Abraham their father,"the father of all those having faith" - Rom.4:11,16-18.

Very simple. What is being described here is unwavering faith.
"Faith is the substance of thing hoped for the "evidence" of things not seen".
This one definition throws most unbelievers into a tailspin. It is a spiritual concept and can only be discerned spiritually.

I think even tho Abraham and Sarah were super old and no longer fertile, that Abraham believed God had the power to let them have a child.
(Sarah however,laughed when she heard this...)
