There are many different kinds of cookies -- drop cookies, that has a soft batter (oatmeal and raisin cookies are an example of this, or chocolate chip cookies) and when they are baked they spread out in the oven. Rolled cookies (sugar cookies are an example of these) are a stiffer batter that is formed into a roll and usually chilled in the frig before being cut in slices and baked. Bars and squares -- like Nanaimo Bar or Date slice - often involves pressing different layers into place in a cake pan, baking whole and slicing before serving. Then there are the shortbreads, which involve a lot of kneading and rolling before they are ready to pat into a pan and bake. These have to be cut into squares while still warm, if you wait until they cool you end up with a mess of crumbs.
Most cookies (except shorbread) are baked in a moderate oven. Shortbread requires a slightly lower oven temperature.
Then there are the unbaked cookies, like rice krispie squares, that are mixed in a pot and cooked on the stove, then turned into a pan to cool.
If you want to try baking some cookies, put 'baked cookies' into the yahoo search slot and you'll be knee deep in recipes.
Enjoy!

Drop them by tablespoon fulls onto a cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes. Try getting about 6 cookies evenly placed onto each pan.

For you the most fitting solution would be to buy some cookies and put them in a microwave and press a button that says "cookie". If you don't have a cookie baking button try "chicken". I've heard it works just as well.

Bake at recommended temperature (may vary with type of cookies) until edges turn lightly brown. Cool on wire rack. Store in a closed container.

Also, there are no-bake cookies.

You preheat the oven and then you put dollops of dough or whatever the recipe says onto cookie sheet using the spacing specified in the recipe and then put in the oven for the amout of time specified.
