Long term physical affects? Stop drinking now if you are experiencing health problems that are drinking related.
Short term? Not much. You just have to know your limit. Once it's in your blood stream, time is the only thing that will take it out.
If you drink, try having a glass of water between each alcoholic drink, and don't SLAM your drinks. Also be sure to eat something substantial prior to going out.

Vitamin B12 is a counter effect for alcohol. Take large quantities such as 10,000% before or after you drink. Alcohol depleats your vitamins, this is why you get headaches. You also get dehydrated. So drink water, like a gallon, and take vitamin b12.
V B12 also tricks your neurotransmitter receptor sites in the thinking that the alcohol is notin your blood stream anymore.

There's nothing you can do but stop drinking and wait it out. A normal metabolism can get rid of about 1 drink per clock hour.
Hangovers can be prevented by drinking in moderation & remaining hydrated (alcohol actually dehydrates the body - chase it with some water).
Be safe this holiday!

Prevention is the best bet. But if you have indulged (or over-indulged) there isn't much you can do about it, just wait for your body to process the alcohol and gradually clear it from your system. There are any number of old-wives tales about things you can do - for example, drinking a glass of cream - that don't work. Many, many DUI citations result from these kinds of efforts.
If you want to speed up the process of clearing it from your body, vigorous physical exercise helps -- but when people have been drinking, that's usually about the last thing they are interested in doing. And it isn't fun doing a workout with a hangover.

Tell you're girlfriend to STOP pushing it on you and ordering you drinks that you never wanted or asked for in the first place. Coffee is good!

Um, let me think - NOT DRINK IT!!! The only thing that gets it out of your system is time. It takes one hour for your body to get rid of 1 - 12 oz beer, 1 - 4 oz glass of wine, or 1 - 1 oz shot. Coffee doesn't work either, contrary to popular belief.

Eat. thing like bread and pasta will help soak up the alcohol that is still in your stomach. It will not sober you up, but it will help your from getting more drunk. As for the alcohol already in your system, you just need to sleep it off.
good luck
