There is a good chance that the staining inside the microwave is *permanent*! The smoke particles (basically pure carbon) get HOT and will burn the enamel paint. If scrubbing with vinegar or lemon doesn't remove the color you'll have to live with it. And just in case... DO NOT attempt to use any kind of paint to 'fix' the new color of your oven! That will only burn your house down.

Boil white vinegar and water in the microwave. It will smell awful for a little while, but that passes pretty quickly and the vinegar gets rid of the burnt smell (not just a temporary cover-up). The same thing is also good for loosening up stains in the microwave - at least for regular food/grease stains.

Put about 1/4 lemon juice or vinegar in a coffee mug. Microwave on high until it's boiling hot. Leave the door shut until the liquid is warm (about 15 minutes) Remove and then wipe the condensation from the inside of the microwave. Leave the door open for it to dry thoroughly.

As far as the house goes, you're just going to have to air it out and maybe use a fragrance. For the microwave, rub the interior with a slice of lemon then rinse with water...

I would try moving some air around, open some windows, use a fan. Also if it is in your garbage, throw out your garbage and use some Febreeze.
