I visited the Mexican town of Agua Prieta with my friend Pasquali. We stopped there to watch the vaqueros train horses. I understand Chip Sugar, famous Horse Whisperer, of Hawley, Texas once helped out here. These are some of the finest young cowboys I have ever seen. Their ability to train and ride horses is uncanny. I got talked into buying a young Stallion and I have decided to call him Chingadero, because I don’t think he will get real big and is a little ornery. He will fetch many times his cost here in the U.S. to benefit charity and they can call him whatever they want.

I don’t know much about horses much past what end to feed, however I do know a great deal about people. What I don’t understand is how Mexico with its abundant resources and human capital can screw things up so bad?

These people scratch out a living with next to nothing and maintain a spirit of resilience and compassion that is rare even under ideal circumstances. I have little doubt that with effort, care and leadership they would prosper in many ways.

Isn’t it about time for change in Mexico?

1) Invest in schools and education
2) Invest in infrastructure (Mexico is rich in natural resources. Build/improve airports, buildings, roads, bridges, oil rigs, oil drills, etc)
3) Invest in technology research (they import tech that is several years old)
4) Change government (Fox has started to do this, however it will take a very long time. Calderon has promised to continue his efforts)
5) Fix the tax system, it is a million times worse than ours (not everyone pays taxes and expects social services)
6) Promote investment in business (preferrably domestic, then foreign)
7) Catholic church needs to stop condemning birth control (if you cant feed and educate your children, dont have them)
8) Control drug cartels (cant eliminate, too much demand in the US. However, government could reduce homocides by striking accords. Yes, yes, I know its not moral but they must face reality)
9) Government needs to pay its employees decent wages to fight corruption. Outside of Congress government workers need to steal or take bribes to make ends meet. Government also needs to punish corruption to the fullest extent.
10) Eliminate that whole "We are a mestizo nation" bullshit or any racial reference for that matter. Some Mexicans are more racist than the KKK. Spread ideals such as those in this great country of ours, for example: One nation, under God, Indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all
11) Legal system needs a major overhaul, some laws date back to colonial times. In Mexico, everyone is guilty until proven innocent
12) Clean up its image. Mexico is beautiful folks, dont let all the negative comments about how trashy and dirty it is fool you. Most of these folks form their opinion after visiting Tijuana or some other border town. Mexico needs to change the perception of many folks.
13) Embrace the poor native americans of southern Mexico. Mexico was founded by the natives and their civilization was destoryed by the Spanish. The government, but most importantly, Mexican citizens need to lift their spirits, get them out of poverty, and convince them to assimilate into the new nation is has become. Eliminate the dividing lines and grow as a nation
14) Responsible fiscal policy

I could go on and on. The above is a good starting point and should create jobs.

There is so much corruption in Mexico if makes Africa look tame and it's been that way in Mexico since the Spanish 1st took over. And the middle class gets clobered by taxes and the coruption to the point where there almost isn't a middle class and that really hurts Mexico too. Drug lords also don't help matters. There oil industries a mess. And there are too many socialists. However, former President Fox started to make some good changes but a lot more has to be done.

The Horse Whisperer is famous among many in the equestrian field., And what you did is a very nice thing--no one can take that from you.

I once read this and I believe it to be true. The writings of Benjamin Franklin, Volume 3
I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them 'in' poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. In my youth I traveled much, and I observed in different countries that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less that was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer.

(several Presidents quoted him believing this to be true-this did not mean no aid to disable or elderly as Benjamin and others did support that)

In short

Creating dependency would never have the results anyone--especially the poor would want.
We need to not encourage this (and supporting illegal immigration does nor foreign aid )-and the people of Mexico needs to work out their own problems. We have not help them we have added to their dependency. We need to find a better way to give them a leg up (horse talk) than we have done if we truly want to help them. They have what they need (resources) --the question is how can we help them use it.

Corruption and selfishness and greed is how things got so bad.

Seems that since they are such a close neighbor that our Governments should have long ago compromised and worked together labor and finance to develop factories, industry, agriculture that both countries would profit from! No excuse for the horrible "red headed stepsister" routine! Our countries are bumper to bumper, we are so very similar in all ways and culture as well, slight differences. We, our Governments are childish and cause all to suffer. We need to combine forces and energies in a manner to benefit all. Vaqueros, however, practice a quick way of subduing horses, in the chaparral with make shift corrals, one horse is placed in a 25ft bull pen with high sides so he can't jump out, then all the men sit on the fence. The horse is roped, the vaquero's rope it front and hind, throw it to the ground, feel it all over, ears, feet, legs, neck, head, body, they put a halter and saddle on it while it is down. Then in turn the men take turns getting on and staying on until the horse is so exhausted it falls to the ground, then when it finally allows itself to be steered and ridden around the arena it is let out to a holding pen and another brought in. It does the job, but it's very brutal to observe, it is not the nostalgia filled romance you want to believe.

A strategy written by the Democrats minus Republican amendments or Corporate lobbyist influence. The problems in Mexico have been enhanced by our Gov't and the worldwide conglomerate corporations that pursue the global priciples of economics. The fruits of their misguided policies are all culminating into direct problems for the American people, and were psstoff. Don't think the Dems won't try and fix such an ugly mess, it will take time--be patient.

The key to change in Mexico is the creation of jobs within Mexico. Walmart the company that Americans "Loves To Hate" and "Love To Shop" is doing a fantastic job of creating employment opportunities in Mexico. WalMex (Walmart de Mexico) has more than 124,000 associates; in 2005 alone 15,228 permanent associates jobs were created.

Employed Mexicans workers have no desired to become illegal immigrants.

I think that Mexican people are raised with a great work ethic. Our communities strive in the US because we are all given a equal opportunity to succeed.

I know many great Mexicans who have succeeded in developing great businesses and these businesses support our economy.

I believe that Mexicans who are here illegally and are hard working should be given a chance to stay.

I think by enforcement of our immigration laws, if they have no place to run to, they will have to stay and fight. No way is anyone going to make Mexico care for its poor, the rich want it all for themselves. But if the poor are made to stay and fight for their rights, in the numbers they are coming here in, who knows what they just might be able to do.

But maybe if they have the same opportunity like people in the USA, they will lose all that that gives them the thing that makes them how they are. Money may make them brain dead, depressed, consumer whores like many Americans are. They will feel depressed because they don't have as much junk as their neighbour - which is not the case now.

I believe that Mexicans as well as every other nationality should realize for themselves that corporate America is not long term employment for ANY minorities,.The Mexican economy will continue to thrive as the workers here send money home to their families.
