I am very frustrated!...I have 2 four month old puppies, but I got one a month before I got the next one. The thing is that the vet gave the 1st puppy flea treatment when I first got him; so, the fleas stopped. Then, a month later, I got the other puppy. I noticed he had fleas as well, then I took them both to the vet so that they both could have flea treatments and not have one pass them on to the next one...Well, I don't know what the problem is now, because I still see a flea every now and then on the second puppy I got. Plus he also doesn't weigh as much as the first puppy I got. The vet said that fleas might be the cause for it. I don't know if that's really true, but taking my pupps for flea medication cost a lot of money, that is not the problem, I just want the results. I'm just frustrated at the moment..

Flea treatment is expensive, but you are doing the right thing by buying the medication from your vet. Frontline, Revolution and Advantage are all quality products (these can be bought online, but it is important to buy these brands). It is important not to use anything you buy at a drugstore, as these products are not manufactured properly, can lead to severe reactions, and are not monitored properly for safety and efficacy.
It is normal for dogs and cats to have a few fleas. The common dog and cat flea does not live on humans. Your pups may have been treated a one-time flea remover. It sounds like it would be best for them to be on a monthly preventative (which will also help with ticks and heartworm), such as those listed above. Make sure what you get is for the right weight of your pet. Also, if they do have fleas, make sure that they are treated for tapeworms as well, as the dog and cat flea carries them. That may be why your pup is not gaining weight.
Your vet should be able to prescribe you a monthly flea preventative, and you should not have to go to him/her to give it. Though the treatment is a little pricey, you shouldn't have to pay for a vet visit as well. If your vet is charging you everytime, get a new vet.
Good luck with your pups and thank you for doing the right thing and taking care of them. It is obvious that you care about them very much.

Purchase flea treatment, it usually comes for sizes of dogs. You can get Sargent's or another brand at pet store or any pet product supplier or you can pay more and buy Front Line from your Vet and follow instructions. You don't need Vet treatment every time. You can also purchase Dog shampoos that discourage fleas. They have flea collars, but I would be care full those in case your puppies are allergic to them...many dogs are and they will draw fleas...so you would be defeating the purpose. If one puppy has fles they will quickly infect the other and you may not see the results until too late.

The best thing i've tried for fleas is Advantage which is a simple drop that goes between their shoulder blades. Puppies are more sensitive to flea treatments so I would double check with your vet as to the dosage. That is easy since you need to buy Advantage from your vet anyways. Vacuuming your house gets rid of about 50% of any fleas or eggs that may be around. There is also a spray you can get to spray carpets etc. I'd still use the flea comb because it is a good way to check to see if any signs of fleas re-appear after treatment.

You have to treat the area where the puppies sleep and play. Maybe put some flea powder down around the blankets. Also for puppies I would buy some flea spray at the store spray it on your hands then rub it lightly on the pups. Keep your patience and this will work out. OK

You have to break the flea cycle in your house.
The dogs get re-infested from the house itself or it could also be from a 3rd pet like a cat if you have one. Check all pets for fleas. You probably don't have a 3rd pet or you likely would have checked it already.
I'm a little surprised the vet didn't want to check the 2nd pup for worms or an intestinal problem.
Killing the fleas on the dogs is only step one. They have been walking through the house dropping fleas, flea eggs and the little red dots/dust.
I would shampoo your carpets and thoroughly vacuum the furniture.
Wash their bedding first thing and maybe your own.
And mop all hard floors thoroughly.
The flea cycle works like this:
1. you get the adult fleas on a pet.
2. they bite/feed on the pet's blood
3. the leave little red dots/dust behind
4. they lay eggs
5. the eggs hatch and little larvae emerge and feed on the little red dots.
Water dissolves the dots giving the larvae nothing to feed on and they die.
Then the cycle is broken.
You still need to keep the house well vacuumed for a while to keep on top of the situation.

Depending on the flea medication...........its put on monthly. You may still see a flea now and again, and if you are using Frontline, the fleas aren't able to breed once they bite your pup.......so you may see them for several months until the cycle runs its course. Keep doing the monthly flea treatments and always get them thru your vet not over the counter like Hartz.........Hope this helps.

Have you tried buying frontline plus? It is a great product. Next time you go to your vet ask them if they carry it. It's a once a month treatment. But I believe you will like the results. Take it from a vet tech.

well fleas can come from anywhere, outside, other animals that have been around yours. But you might want to consider fles bombing your house as well to make sure that thats not where there coming from. And also you might want to find a different flea medication. i find that front line plus works the best for my dogs. hope it works
