If you check ahead about the rules re: transporting gifts in checked luggage, you would have packed the gifts unwrapped. Any and all airlines have to check inside wrapped packages as they are a perfect decoy to get a bomb on a plane. We live in a world inhabited by sick terrorists who don't care how many they kill or where they kill them. So pack your luggage with unwrapped gifts and wrap them at your destination.

It's not so much the airline as the airport security. Check out these two sites to stay updated on security issues: http://wehow.ehow.com/how_2003583_pack-holiday-travel.html
