no honestly he might be too young to pull heavy loads. i know any large boned dogs that do things such as agility have to be older so the extra jumping and such does not harm growing bones. pits are still filling out or just reaching that point at 18 months. if there a club near you that does competition pulling? they will be able to help you. i would reccomend also having your dog's shoulder's and elbow's and hip's x-rayed first before pulling heavy loads. because if there is some form is displaysia it could damage it further, and make life later on painful for your dog. if you can't find a pulling club in your area, try the rottweiler club, some of those rotts might be involved in pulling. but start light and be patient with the dog while he learns. good luck.
ok people people i can't stand the answers anymore. dog pulling is where the dog is attached to weights, like cinder blocks on a palete or wagon and they measure how far the dog can pull them. pit's are a good dog for this since they are strong muscular animals and it gives them a great source of exercise as long as the exercise is done right. it's no different than dog sled pulling by husky's because they are designed to do this right? well pits are designed to do well in dog pulling. and don't worry the cinder blocks will keep him from attacking anyone i'm sure. really now, aren't there other breeds of dogs we can focus our attention on? this is obviously and owner who understands and respects the breed and their power, or he would not be inquiring about pulling, now would he?

Pull what? Pull on the lead when you walk him? You don't want that cause they're very strong and if it attacks something you won't be able to control it.
It's not pitbulls that are necessarily the problem they're not nastier than the average dog - it's just that when they do bite something, they don't let go!!
If you wanted it to pull like... a dog sled... well maybe a husky or a malamute would be better in the snow...
I'm trying to think of what other pulls you could be referring to..
Like a tug toy? Some dogs just aren't that interested in that type of thing but if you get one and wave it around and drag it along the floor, the dog may display some interest.

No, if you take the time to work with the dog he/she will learn just as a young puppy would. Thanks for sticking up for pitbulls. They have such a bad name but are actually one of the greatest dogs. I have an American Pit and the only time I even have to slightly think about anything is if someone gets aggressive towards one of my children. Other than that she might lick you to death but would never hurt anyone.

You should wait till it is at least a year old then start out light and make sure it is fun for him if he really hates it then don't force him to do it. If you start out any sooner than a year then you could cause damage to his bones and joints. You can google training your pit bull to pull and it brings up some really good sites......
And for the person who said if he is your pet why make him pull...... because pits are high energy dogs and some of them really enjoy pulling and it is defiantly better to pull or do agility or search and rescue than to fight!!!! If raised and trained properly they are great dogs. They just have a high energy level and need lots of activities to keep them happy.

most likely not, but make sure you star off slow not putting too much weight on at one time, start off slow, you have to make sure you build up his stamina or else he might hurt himself. But a dog is never to old to learn how to do something unless ya know if its older than dirt and can barely walk then i might be alittle to late to teach it to do something new

no. Why do you want to teach it to pull? it's not good for their teeth and it teaches aggression. Call a dog trainer.
