Paul urges people to marry if they cannot remain chaste. Why would you assume a greater spiritual gift of celibacy for gay people than for straight people?

To those who think you can't be gay until you're sexually active:
Don't you know whether you're sexually attracted to someone of the opposite sex before you go to bed with them? The only reason people engage in sex is that they become excited by their partner. That starts sometimes years before they actually land on the cotton island.

Because if there were homosexuals at the time, they never spoke up, because it was SO TABOO back then, u'd probably get stoned to death for even thinking about it. So Paul never had to mention it, since in those days, the Bible was followed to a T, and it clearly stated that homosexuality is a sin. IF u can't be gay, then why even speak of it; and assume there are some in ur crowd? Straights could be married and even had sex unmarried, that's why Paul spoke of it that way...to caution single straight people of what they're doing to themselves by dishonoring the gift of celebacy, and how to redeem themselves in the eyes of God.
The reason homosexuality comes out today, is because it's ok for the most part(even accepted), for a man and a woman in a long term relationship(sometimes not even then), to have sex; even if they're not married. And if that doesnt happen for a while, or marriage hasn't taken place to facilitate sex, then the man is referred to as gay, and the woman a prude. There's no winning here. Ur damned if u do, and ur damned if u don't. But don't take it out on Paul; he was just saying what Jesus taught him to preach.

I wouldn't. Celibacy, is a choice made by men who wish to be priests by the Latin Rite. They forsake their sexuality. There was this uproar about openly gay priests, but a priest that show his sexual preference very clearly is just looking for trouble anyway. I'm not sure what the deal is. And I don't know why people assume priest as gay all the time either. Or that gay people like children, etc...

Celibacy is not a gift.
It is a requirement of all of Christendom to be celibate before marriage.
It is unique to the Catholic "faction" of Christianity to require all priests, etc., to remain celibate. This reasoning stems from Matthew 19:12, "and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of Heaven's sake."
As for being a gift of the Spirit, that contradicts scripture. 1 Corinthians 12 lists the ONLY gifts given to us by the spirit: words of wisdom, words of knowledge, faith, healing, powers, prophecy, discernment, tongues, and interpretation of tongues.
You make a very valid point - though I don't believe that anyone assumes that gay men have this supposed "gift of the Spirit." I believe that they expect us to force this "gift" upon ourselves. Or leave.
Calling it a "gift" is only so they can feel good about themselves after telling you and I where to get off.

First, gay men are not celibate. Nor are they christian. Paul also says that the greater spiritual gifts are the ones that build up the church.
Celibacy can be a gift of the spirit. It would allow for a person to be totally devoted to God and the great commission without the weight of spouse and children. But, this does not mean they should be celibate to be a Minister. I think the Catholics got it wrong on that one.

I don't assume anything. But, I have read and watched the History Channel enough to believe that Priests were allowed to marry before the Crusades.
Before the Knights went on that journey, they forced the Pope (The Holy Emperor) to make all the priests take a vow of celibacy.
Can you guess why?

A man may have gay outlooks and even look gay but yet is not gay. A man is only considered gay when he embrace another man or have encounter one sexually. No one can live a celibacy life when sexually active.

I've often heard some of the brighter and more informed Catholics referring to homosexual orientation itself as a "gift". While this is definitely an improvement on the sin or disease models, I've always wondered what's the point of a gift if you're not allowed to unwrap it?
A thought for the festive season!

yes marriage is Gods gift to those who cannot contain their lusts or fornication. God actually prefers we all remain unmarried, it will give better dedication to Him. When we have the Lord anything is possible. Do not try to bait for your homosexuality. We do not care is you are gay, we love you just he same.

Which brings us back to the fact that marriage is between a man and a woman. Honestly, I understand that you don't agree with the Word of God, but do you really need the approval of this forum that badly, Hun? You've made your choice, you will answer to none of us. Why seek our approval? Our opinions mean nothing.
