perhaps its just expressing itself,,, or adjusting to the move, if you got it recently,,,,,,, if you have had it since it was a puppy,, i would guess its just its personality,,,,does it have enought things to keep it amused and active? or is it getting bored? is there a neighbor dog responding to its howls?? if so maybe its just communicating,,,,,

You don't say much about the dog. Is it left in a yard outside that it howls all day? Is it bored shiftless? Get your dog on a schedule which includes daily walks- at least one long one, a romp in the dog park- weekly at least if possible, play time with you and if applicable with other family members. Regular meals etc.
Consistency and enough stimulation should help.
If it doesn't- see a Vet.
If that is too much for you, that may not be the right breed for you and then you might want to contact a Golden Retriever Rescue organization who will help find the dog a home where a person will adopt it that knows a lot about the breed and their needs.

He may be trying to get your attention. Do you play with him often? Is there something he needs?
There might even be a dog across the street that you don't know about.
Make sure he has clean water, fresh food, and he is exercised well. All I can say is good luck! (:

Maybe it is a stress relief....goldens can be a little high energy....maybe it has learned this behavior has a calming effect. You didn't mention if you acquired this dog recently or you have had it for a long time...If you just acquired it...it could be it misses his previous owners....but that could still be a stress relieving behavior.

I think it mite be seperation anxiety....my dog is the same age has it, and everytime either me or my family leaves the house she barks her head off and it's so embarassing....but maybe if you get you're dog a friend or get their attention with a toy stuffed with treats??

i think either the dog is lonely, or is bored. Was the dog used to being with other dogs? if so them its probably just missing his buddies. Or if you dont spend enough time with it then its probably bored, and wants some attention

sounds like separation anxiety - talk to a dog trainer about it.
