For the question why do I have pigeons?

I have them because there beautiful & come in many breeds, shapes, colours & sizes, unlike a parrot when you let a pigeon out it won't fly away if it knows your it's home .. instead it will take a short flight then come back home unless it's a homming pigeon .. they migh fly for about an hour then come home.

But pigeons like rollers, tumblers ect ,, rather stay close to home & come back sooner, also never feed your pigeons before you fly them as they usualy come back home faster when there more hungrey so they can eat the home seeds lol.

Pigeons are awsome pets with a life span up to 20 years or more.

Let's just say .. I love pigeons ^_^

I used to have a beautiful and loving parakeet. I was so sad when he died, but he will always live in my heart and soul forever.

Now I have a green cheek conure who makes my day everyday. He makes kissing sounds everytime he sees me, dances when I sing to him, chews everything possible and destroys all his toys, so I have to get new toys almost every week. I need to have his approval in everything I do around the house as he stays on my head or shoulder and he imitates all the noises possible. Now he does the alarm clock. He is absolutely great and very spoiled, too and I love him for his great personality. He loves strokes on his neck, he puffs up and yawns in pleasure when I do that, watches TV with me standing on my knee and he has showers with me, that is why he has his own shower perch in the shower, and when he is not in the mood for a shower he prefers a bath in the sink. Sometimes we have naps together and he tucks himself underneath my hair and puts his beak behind my ear. I can always feel his breath against my skin, and before falling asleep he lightly kisses my ear. He also loves my husband and he always starts dancing and bobbing his head when my husband comes home from work. He is great and I am so happy we chose him from all the birds from the pet store, although if I had had the money and the space I would have bought all the birds from there. I love birds, they are all unique in their own way and they don't miss to show in their birdie way how much they appreciate you for everything you do for them.

pigeons are cool. Rock doves I believe they are called...and remarkably intellingent I have heard. I live with a beautiful orange winged green amazon parrot (Amazona amazonica) named Charlie. She's 27 and most days is very well mannered. I can't say I really own her though. I'm just her caretaker I suppose. She will probably outlive me.
Did you know many tribes in Peru would just as soon eat a parrot much like we would eat a chicken? Well there's a lot less cruelty involved for the parrot as the tribepeople dispatch the prey with poison darts thus killing the bird by the time it hits the ground. I wonder what side dishes they prefer with it?
you left your comment on parrot cooking in another of my questions by mistake I think...you left your note in my Mr. Hanky question. Both were in jest but I thank you for your kind words. Peace.

I think resued birds are the bestest.. they may have issues but most issues can be gotten over.. my umbrela was almost bald when I got him but with alot of affection and tons of cardboard boxes and plenty of testing to make sure it was just emotional he is now full of feathers!!! if anyone islooking to get a bird they must have alot of time on their hands its like haveing a bunch of 2 year olds...lol..smile... but dont buy them resue them those are the ones that really need you...here are my birds at the present time:

1) umbrella Cockatoo: Merlin
2) african grey: Gabby
3) sun conure: Lola
4) parrotlet: Tink
I rescued all of them from families that could not keep them, I love each and every one of them.. I used to have 28 cockatiels but have placed all of them in wonderful homes and decided that 4 larger birds were plenty....lol..smile...

1 green cheek conure. He loves girls, but absolutely hates boys. He will fly and attack my husband and son, but cuddles up and plays with me and my daughter.

Why pigeons? What do they do?
