The first day Pam ate 12 chocolates and Gabriela ate 9, which is 3/4 of 12. Together they ate 21 chocolates, and so there were 10 left. The second day Pam ate 6 chocolates and Gabriela ate 4, which is 2/3 of 6. Together they ate 10 chocolates on the second day, and they were all gone. Of the entire box of 31, Pam ate 18 chocolates and Gabriela ate 13.

Gabriela ate 13 chocolates.
31 chocolates.
Pam eats 12 and (3/4) of that is 9. (Making 21)
Pam then eats 6 and (2/3) of that is 4. (This adds 10 more, making 31)

Na = 31
Ea = Pa + Ga
Ga = (3/4) Pa
Ea = Pa + (3/4) Pa
Nb = Na - Ea
Nb = 31 - (7/4) Pa
Nb = Eb = Pb + Gb
Gb = (2/3) Pb
Nb = Pb + (2/3) Pb
Nb = (5/3) Pb
(5/3) Pb = 31 - (7/4) Pa
31 = (5/3) Pb + (7/4) Pa
Pa must be a whole multiple of 4.
Pb must be a whole multiple of 3.
A fishing expedition turns up these numbers...
Pa=12, Ga=9, Pb=6, Gb=4
On the 1st day, Pam ate 12 chocolates, and Gabriela ate 9 chocolates.
On the 2nd day, Pam ate 6 chocolates, and Gabriela ate 4 chocolates.
12+9+6+4 = 31
Pam ate a total of 18 chocolates during the two days, while Gabriela ate 13 chocolates.

You can't answer that question, because you know how much that gaberiela ate when compared to pam, and how much pam ate compared to gaberiela. What you don't know is how many they ate out of the chocolates. So there for there is no solution.

1.Take 31 divided by 4, then times 3.
2.Then, take away that number from 31.
3.Take the new number (from 2) and divide it by 3, and then times 2.
There you go!
