Actually, they already did. It was only ever illegal in a very obscure 1960's law that was written before the Internet was invented. The law was never enforced and no one was ever arrested for online gambling.

The new law that Bill Frist slipped into an unrelated anti-terror bill actually completely legalizes gambling in the form of horse race betting, online lotteries and certain fantasy sports games. Quite how many bribes he received to legalize those specific areas is unknown at this time.

But to answer your question, online gambling should be legalized fully, taxed and regulated. American companies should be allowed to open online casinos at will. The steps taken by the government to make it harder to do are just stupid. There is no reason why the government should tell people how to spend their money online.

Let's face it. I can get in a plane, be in Vegas in five hours and put my life savings into a poker game. I can buy a lotto ticket in all but two states. I can go to a river boat casino and place $100,000 in a slot machine. I can bet legally on horses online, until I have no money left. There are already so many ways that I can gamble right now. Being awkward about online gambling as this administration has been achieves nothing. It's time for a more progressive policy in step with the will of the people.

I cannot see how it is the American Government's business to say what should and should not be illegal, for something that I do in the privacy of my own home. If this country truly is a Democracy, than it will be the people who decide, not the Government. If the Government is so concerned with gambling as it realtes to addiction and leads to family problems, than I guess we should take a closer look at alcohol purchase, lottery ticket purchase, and even scratch tickets that a 10-year-old is able to purchase out of a vending machine at the local market.

I play poker for a living and it's a tough job!!!, and playing online is of course a part of my income, I don't want that to go away.

It's like a lot things, you can enjoy it but with moderation, and having a total control of it. I'm a married man and i can proudly say that I have the complete support of my wife, and she is proud of the path that I have taken.

Take care, and see you online.

PokerStars does not accept US players, so it's a moot point. There are other sites that accept US players though. Bovada is one of quite a few places. It is legal to play poker on-line from the US. Where the gray area is, is how you get the money to these poker sites. You can do it, but that's the part where there are some methods of giving these sites your money that are illegal. Still, most people don't have any problems. More important - You say you are "really good at poker". First of all, what does that even mean? Do you beat your friends at home a lot? Have you made millions of chips playing on the play-money sites? Worthless and worthless. Are you a consistently profitable player at real-money games at casinos? Well that's better, but it still is not likely enough to consistently beat on-line poker. On-line poker is WAY harder to beat than at a live casino. I'm not saying never try it. Just understand that a $1/$2 no limit table at a casino is WAY different than a $1/$2 no limit table on-line. Way harder! Stick with micro stakes and you might be fine. (1-cent/2-cent tables and slightly bigger.)

Yes, I think that the United States Congress should explicity state that online gambling in the Unites States is legal. The financial benefits far, far outweigh the perceived social ills that would supposedly come with online gambling.

Cheers!

Yes...I think the government trying to control the on line gambling is unfair. Also each state seems to have its own rules on contests. All states should be equal in the United States.

The government is always looking for ways to make money. Just think how much they can make from gambling sites!!!

Wow, I never knew that it was illegal. It's probally because the government wants taxes and a lot of friends of people in the government control the gambling. Now, the online gambling is taking profits away from them.

Yes, all online wagering in the U.S. should be controlled, monitored and taxed (not too much :) as that would cause other issues) In the meanwhile, we should make games of skill like horse racing and lotteries also include Poker :).
