i want to keep using the one i've got now since it has more features, but I don't want him to get hurt by not using the gift he got me. what should i do?

You have no choice but to return it. That wasn't a very smart gift from him, if you already have a phone you are happy with.....
Most companies do return in a certain amount of time, like a week , so don't wait too long .

Wow you're in a bit of a pickle. I don't think that you should lie to him. Tell him the truth, but say it in a sarcastic tone like "I got you a really nice gift from the heart...and you gave me a cellphone?!?" Sometimes saying things jokingly is the best way to say the truth. If you lie then you'll just end up using the cellphone he gave you. I'm sure if he really does care about you, he won't be offended. Remember Christmas is about spending time with your loved ones, right?

I think that even though you have a better one. Still keep the phone even if you don't use it. To show that friend that you still appreciate that gift. Even though you have a better one you still thank them and appreciate their courtesy.

use the one you use now.. but when he's around, use the one he got you.....but keep the 1 he got w/ you just incase he wants to call you. it may be a little inconvenient to carry 2 cell phones but it should work!

That's a tough one. If I were you I would keep using the one i have. i would explain the situation to my b/f and hopefully he would understand. Do whatever you feel is right.
