Can someone explain in simple terms what to look for in a good plasma TV? I am not a "techie" and am trying to compare and really don't know what is the "best" and what is the 'worst" besides the obvious pricing. HD vs HD ready, ET?, pixels. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

You can to get a plasma tv with a built-in HD tuner, at least 8000:1 contrast ratio and at least 1366 x 768 resolution. If you can, try to find one that has 2 HDMI inputs.

If you follow these specs, you will get HD resolution, bright image and great color.

Be careful what brand you buy. Panasonic is the best. The next best would be LG/Zenith. Then, Hitachi and Samsung. I wouldn't dare go for any other brand, not even Sony when it comes to plasma.

I have the Zenith Z50PX2D 50" Plasma and got it at Circuit City for $2000 about 7 months ago. I watch movies, HD cable and play Xbox on it.

Plasma is the best way to go for movies. Don't let people to try to convince you that LCD is better. Videophiles have plasma or DLP rear projection. Of course, rich videophiles buy projectors.

you want to buy an excellent set worth every penny of your money? then buy a Sony Bravia XBR series LCD tv. looks a whole lot better than any plasma display out there. They solved to poor refresh rates of the older lcds and some of the newer plasmas and they are extremely reliable. I see one of these sets maybe once a month and most of the time its a problem with the customer, not the television.

there are 3 basic types of flat panel monitors... plasma, lcd, and dlp... i dont know what your set up is... but plasmas arent good for video games... because they can burn in... lcd are good for every thing... but are expencive... and dlp are also good for everything.. but are cheaper then lcd... so it depends on what your set up is... also... hd means it can play a hi definition picture from any source that provides a hd signal... a hd ready monitor means that it has a hd tuner in it... and you can watch hd programing on tv... i dont know what et is... pixels are the little tiny squares that make up a picture...
