on this hardware setup, without surround sound, is getting a ps3 worth it?

To answer the other responders: The PS3 may be easier to get than you think--eBay sellers are barely making a profit off of them nowadays, and more units are reaching stores as we speak. They're still hard to find, sure, but with a little bit of timing (and maybe some "social engineering" with your local Best Buy salesperson), it's far from impossible. And, yes, even the cheaper 20GB system has HDMI.

Anyway, the real question is "is getting a PS3 now 'worth it' at all?"--considering the relatively few titles available (and even fewer that are actually good), it's a matter of personal taste. I think the consensus among gamers is that it may be more worthwhile to wait until the PS3 is more plentiful and the game library is more mature before actually going to get one; if you really want a next-gen, high-def console right now, the XBox 360 (which doesn't have HDMI, but does have 1080p) may be the better choice.

Does it in no way artwork in 1080p or in basic terms in specific circumstances? i can inform you that maximum PS3 video games won't immediately flow to 1080p except you deselect all the different resolutions. If it does not do 1080p regardless, then i could wager a defective cable.

Yes it is, but it may be difficult to find a PS3 in stores at the moment. Did you mean 1080i?
