Yes. Your cover is only covered for the duration of the policy

£20 a year for noclaims protection ? My quotes for protection usually add an extra £60 to £80 to my premium.

I've never taken the protection... partly because I was told they still jack your premium up if you've been involved in a incident/claim.. but I don't know how true that is.

What I have done is taken my Legal Insurance Protection out with a different insurer (RAC at £25) - instead of an add-on to my car insurance policy. Therefore if I'm involved in a incident which isn't my fault, I'll be going straight through that policy and bypass telling insurer - to recover my costs from the party at fault via solicitors and paid for by Legal Insurance Protection.

After all .... its a no-claims discount. It doesn't mean "no-blame". Even if your not at fault in an incident the car insurers can jack your premium up for next time.

Most of these protected bonus are a take on, if you have an accident your no claims discount is protected ok, BUT they estimate you as a higher risk and increase your basic insurance which works out the same as if you have lost your no claim discount

You don't have to, but if you don't your no claims bonus won't be protected. You pay a little extra each year, to protect it one year at a time.

as i understand it the cost of it is built into the policy .. if i was you i would keep it like that ..if you take out a policy without protection and you had a minor mishap the cost for the following year will be far higher than what you saved..you know whats sods law dictates ..so beware

I am afraid so. It is usually around about £20 per year. Worth the money I recon. Have you had a quote from Tesco.com They are very competitive.

'fraid so. Shouldn't cost much more though, I'd guess?

Probably good value for money if some muppet ruins your motor one day...
