Depends on who you ask a Christian will say they are similar except for Jesus a Jew will say they are not similar in almost any way.

Original sin
G-d
Messiah
Satan
Heaven
Hell
Sin
Atonement
These for starters are views that Jews and Christians are totally different

Both believe (for the most part)

* That there is a point to history-- that it is going somewhere
* That the G-d of Israel created the heavens and the earth
* That G-d is a moral and just Judge that all people will have to give an account to one day--- that wickedness will be punished and doing right will be rewarded
* That G-d gave the Jewish people the first responsibility to tell the rest of the nations Who He is and what He is like and what is right and wrong
* That He is a G-d rich in mercy
* That He is omnicient (all-knowing), omnipresent (everywhere) and omnipotent (all powerful).
* That He gives people free-will-- that He did not want robots who had to obey Him-- but people who would freely choose to love Him.
* That He gave the Ten Commandments
* That He promised to send a Messiah (an anointed One)
* That the Hebrew Bible is a record of His words and actions
* That people should take one day a week (for Jewish people that is Shabbat or Saturday and for most Christians that is Sunday)
* That Jerusalem is a city holy to the L-rd and to both faiths
* That G-d anoints prophets to speak to people and warn them
* That there is nothing too hard for G-d
* That the G-d of Israel is the One True G-d.
* That religious leaders are to be held in respect.. but that our ultimate alleigance and obedience is to our Creator.

There are other ways that Christianity and Judaism used to be more similar (in regards to the way atonement was made), but that is a question for another thread.

Christians and Jews alike accept the book of Moses and the prophets. The differance is that the jews are still waiting for the promised messiah. Christians believe he is Jesus Christ who has already come.
Some poeple like to pretend Christianity is a whole differant religion than Judism, Howeverm Jesus himself said in
Matthew 5:17
"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

Both believe in one God.
Both believe in The Old Testament.
Both try to follow The Ten Commandments.
The only difference I can see is that the Jews are waiting for The Messiah to come. And the Christians are waiting for The Messiah to come again.

The Jews couldn't bring themselves to believe in an invisible God so that created symbol of him at the foot of Mount Sinai. Christians also can't bring themselves to believe in an invisible God, so they use the Cross, the Shroud, and thousands of other things to place their faith in.

Jews demanded to have a human form of government, despite God's warnings that man cannot rule themselves. Christians also would rather have a human form of government instead of putting their faith in God.

Jews began creating numerous observances, unrelated to God, to make life more fun. Christians adopted pagan observances for the same reason.

The Jews refused to acknowledge the first coming of Christ, despite the fulfillment of prophesies that he had come. Christians refuse to acknowledge the second presence of Christ, despite the fulfillment of prophesies.

The Jews refuse to acknowledge Christ as the Messiah because he didn't bring about Armageddon and the destruction of the enemies of the first God's chosen people. Christians refuse to acknowledge the second presence as Christ didn't bring about Armageddon and the destruction of the enemies of the second of God's chosen people.

The question to ask yourself is who is the third (3 = perfection in the Bible) group making up God chosen people, who don't think of themselves as a part of the world as a whole, just as the Jews didn't and the Christians didn't, at their beginnings?

The Old Testament is their major similarity.

There are NO similarities between the two!

The important similarity is that their founder was a Jewish rabbi.

The difference is that he later rejected the Jewish religion (or his disciples claimed that he did).
