The first thing you need to understand is that the word Gnostic (means knowledge).

The Gnostics were different from Christians that they had experiences that taught them the truth in their three initiations.

The Gnostic gospels are assorted gospels such as the gospel of Thomas, Mary Magdalene, Phillip, etc.

If you want to study more about Gnosticism; I can recommend four books for you to buy or borrow from a library.

Last night, The History Channel said that the Gnostics were rejected because they believed in the messages of Jesus, and the intellectual side of Jesus' ministry; rather than the miracle of Jesus' blood washing away their sins. Their gospels were rejected because they were written about 200 years after Jesus' ministry here on Earth. The excuse given was that the Gnostic Gospels were not authorative enough. But in reality, the The Gnostics were rejected because they believed in both male and female leaders of the Church.

They are the writings of the gnostic christians. They were rejected by the church fathers as heresies. However gnostics claimed (and still do) that orthodox Christianity is the heresy and that they had the real teachings of Jesus.

"Religous" books written 100's of yrs after Jesus that claimed various things about him. They were showing up at churches because they had familiar names like Thomas, Mary, and Judas. They were creating alot of false teaching in many churches, causing the need to make one Bible with the correct Gospels and other necessary info. that was proven to be accurate. This bible has been under attack ever since by entire nations to try to disprove it, yet here it is. Holy, pure, and true.

they were written 200-300 years after Jesus by people who never met Jesus christ> the 4 christian gospels were written by Jesus' 2 apostles and 2 friends of the apostles within 50 years after jesus left. gnostics are pagan-christians who teach salvation by gaining spiritual knowledge instead of the work of jesus on the cross.
