Some people say that if Angelina Jolie was just a regular citizen she wouldn't have qualified for adoption because of her blood vial thing, history of drugs and cutting. Is that true?

How do you know if you're qualified for adopting kids?

Having started the process to adopt from overseas, I can tell you that they are not less lenient about the issues you brought up. They are just as strict as if you were adopting stateside. They do thourough background checks and a history of drugs and any indication of a psychological issue (i.e. cutting) can ruin your chances of adoption. Just having had parents who didn't stay married can affect your chances. It usually doesn't but they do look into your entire background and take all of that into consideration. I firmly believe that if Angelina were an ordinary citizen then her chances wouldn't have been all that great. It is no different than Madonna. She put out a book called "Sex" which is basically soft core porn. I can assure you that would kill your chances of adoption no matter where you intended on adopting. But she is a star and has money. She can do whatever she wants. Now the nanny gets to take care of the baby while Madonna looks like a saint. It is very unfair as there are many of us ordinary people who would love to provide a loving, caring home to children who need one and we can't. In our case it had to do with the money. In the long run we realized we just couldn't afford it. It would have depeleted our savings and we'd be struggling to take care of the child.

If you are serious about adopting you should find a reputable agency. They will assign someone to you to go through all of the steps. You'll have a lot of work to do before they say you are qualified. But I'm sure you're fine. You might as well try and see where it takes you.

Good luck!

If you are adpoting from overseas, they are much more lenient about the issues you mentioned. If there is public record of drug abuse, or felonious convictions for possession or sale, then the adoption agencies in the US might have a problem with it. As for the cutting thing and the vial of blood...think about how many people really, actually do that...that was a Angelina Jolie and Bob Thornton thing.
As far as knowing if you are qualified , the agencies do that qualification. I do know that they have age restrictions, house/room restrictions, whether the mom is a working mom etc., and is the couple financially capable of providing for this child's education.
