No beer should be wasted in the form of foam...
1. Tilt glass at least forty-five degree angle
2. Slowly pour beer into glass an inch or two below rim
2.a. when pouring from a bottle, go ahead and pour with the rim of the bottle close to the surface of the glass
2.b. when pouring with a can, pour with the lip of the can as close to the glass as possible
3. As beer fills the glass one can increase the rate of pouring
4. During the pour, vary rate of pour depending on any head build-up
The why or why not is opinion. However, assume that the person you're serving doesn't like head on their beer, but it's acceptable to give them a quarter inch or so.

Tilt glass and pour beer slowly into the glass at an angle. As the glass fills, tilt to an up right position. There should be a little head on the top. ENJOY!

I have poured thousands of beer and you tilt the glass and pour beer slowly in to prevent getting a head.( With practise you can do this very quickly.) I have found that 90% of the people prefer no head and the colder the beer the quicker you can poor with little head.

head isn't good when it comes to beer. the best way is to tilt the glass you're pouring it into and try to make the least amount of time possible that the beer is falling in mid-air.

Consider the glass. A glass is essentially a cylinder, open at one end and closed at the other. Pour the beer into the open end.

I always pour to the side of the glass to prevent a build up of foam, about one inch of head from the rim of the glass is standard.

You absolutely want a head on your glass of beer. Most bartenders guides will say that, two-fingers width of foam is appropriate. The head isn't for looks. It denotes the body of the beer and releases aromas
