Anyone who has had a baby born with club foot and has had post medial release done. My son had the surgery done in Aug and is still not walking. He olny got out of casts Oct29th. The surgen said he could walk that day or months from now. He recives PT every week, the surgen just now said they want to increase it to 3 times a week. He walks with one hand held but is still really unsteady. How long before I should push the issue of him not walking indepentdly?

Oh, bless his little heart. Ask the PT. S/he should know. If the doc is increasing the frequency of the PT, maybe that will make the child walk sooner. Keep bothering the doctor till your son can walk.

Good luck to you. No, I don't have a child with bilateral club foot, but as a mother I feel for you. Just wanted to let you know somebody read your question.

Our son had a club foot, but didnt need surgery. We were on a yahoo club foot message board, got great answers there (in case you dont find any here) Although if the surgeon says so I would get the PT increased as soon as possible. If you've had other kids, think of how many times they need to repeat something before they "get it" Ours were at stages of walking, with help, falling over, etc for easily a month or two.

Be patient and work with the doctors and physical therapist. Some children and adults take longer to heal and rehab. than others. Free orthopedic and burn reconstruction surgery is also available through the 22 Shrine hospitals. USA 1-800 237-5055 Canada 1 800-361-7256
Talk to your physical therapist about your concerns.

I was born with Holt Oram syndrome and received many surgeries and a lot of therapy. I also volunteer my time as a Shrine Circus clown. Shriners will help any handicapped or burned child until they are 18 years of age absolutely free. No gimmicks, no catches
