We had the same problem with our dog. I did a lot of research on the matter and learned a lot. Finally, she was housebroken. First, take her to the Vet. to make sure she does not have any blatter, kidney, etc... problems. If all is well there, buy a doggie crate. Making sure it's not too large. If it's too large, they will go potty in it. It needs to be just large enough for her to stand up and turn around. Lay some soft bedding in it for her, like bathroom towells. If she has a blanket, use that. A dog is NEVER too old to be potty trained! I learned this from the Dog Whisperer. Place the crate in an area where the whole family is, so that she doesn't feel left out. Put her in it and keep her there. DO NOT let her out for any reason except to go potty, eat, drink and excercise. When she's not doing those 4 things she's in the crate. She might whine, bark and make noise at first. NEVER let her out during those moments. If you do, then she wins and she's running you. Remember, your the boss. Take her outside to go potty every 2 hours (in the beginning). When she does her business, reward her with a small treat and praise. Then back into the crate. Yes, do this during the night too. This part normally goes pretty quick with older dogs because they can hold it longer. When your sure she's got the 2 hours down, stretch it to 3 hours. Then to 4 hours. If a cage is the correct size and the dog has no health issues, it will never go potty in it's crate. In time, that becomes the doggies happy place and they are completely comfortable and safe there. I would also recommend feeding her a good quality food such a Science Diet. Science Diet food and treats has much less filler in it so there is a lot less need to go potty. This actually helps tremendously. If you feed them cheap food, they'll be pottying it all out, all the time. You must be persistant and patient. Never rub a dogs nose in it or spank them. Have you ever heard of dogs that eat poopy? They do this for 2 reasons. Boredom or they were punished for going to the bathroom on the floor by nose rubbing and/or spanking. Hence, they eat it to get rid of it. Also, excercise if very important for any kind of training. Walk, walk, walk. This tires them out so they sleep sounder for longer periods of time. It also helps the stay healthy so they stay on a routine. Hope this helps you some. Best of luck and Merry Christmas!

First off, stop rubbing your dog's nose in it. That doesn't work. You need to start setting the rules in your house.

You bring the dog out when you want it to urinate. Take the dog out (don't let it out) once an hour. Be armed with treats and praise. When the dog urinates outside, praise it and give it a treat.
If you keep the dog in a crate (kennel cab) or the like, they will rarely pee in there, except in cases of dire emergency. If your dog pees in its crate after less than 3 hours, you may need the intervention of the vet, there could be something wrong with its urinary tract. Bladder infections are common with dogs.
Otherwise, contact a trainer for a home visit and training.

Watch the dog whisperer on cable. He is the best! Caesar!

Why the hell would u rub her nose in it? that;s kinda cruel no offense!!!!! Ok, so, i have a 9 month old beagle and he still pees and takes dumps on the floor! But don;t worry! a good way to resolve this is just to acually take it on loooong walks so it can get used to the world around it. or maybe your puppy just pees on the floor because she/he does not get outside enough. Another thing though is that it could still pee because she/he is used to your home so she/he thinks it can just go anywhere! You have a Merry Christmas 2!

Ok keep in mind your dog is known for their stubbornness. When i was training my sweety (bless her she has passed on) 2 things worked. A quick loud, not hard or damaging swat on the but with a loose newspaper. That got her attention real quick and she got the message. Prior to that one day, my mom used rocks in a tin can. The Noise is annoying and the key is to get the dogs attention to assist in getting the concept that pee inside is a big no no. Also if you can pre-read the dog, cockers sniff around alot when they gotta pee. Also get your carpets cleaned or any good carpet cleaner works well like Woolite. The newspaper even above on your hand will get her attention, the key with stubborn pups is one who is boss & who has the last word. Good Luck!!!

Make sure you are walking her regularly. Don't punish her for wetting the floor instead reward her when she pees outside. A reward doesn't have to be food. It can be a big hug and a "good girl".
My dog is 6 and she still does that! But we have found it happens when she doesn't get enough attention. One long walk or one car ride takes care of it.

my dog is 4 and still pees..he was a kennel dog and didn't know any better for 3 years. I takes time but it sounds like she wasn't trained properly or completely. The best book to buy is "how to house train your dog in 7 days" it doesn't take seven days but gives you a plan on how to succeed. I have been using it for years.

Stop the nose rubbing it never works except if you wish to instill fear in your dog.
Its better to let her out as soon as you get home and then reward her for peeing outside, she will soon associate peeing with outside and that it is a positive thing. Rather than pee is negative (nose rubbing).

That's cruel!! Rubbing her nose in it wont do anything. She doesn't learn from it. Train her to go outside and compliment her when she does. Get her a doggy door for Christmas. Those work!

thats just mean! Take her out for a walk so that she can pee outside! I always took my dog on walks like 2 to 3 times a day, and he never peed inside the house.

try putting pee pads where she mostly pees in, and slowly migrate the pad towards the door that she uses to go out side. Make sure to use the same door to take her out.
