Hi Magiceye81,

Hey bud, sounds like you got it pretty well figured out. You probably should speak with someone with the company you are driving for as to recommendations as to which way to file.

You could add up your total business expense and compare that to the daily dollar amount and file whichever one gives you the biggest return. Thinking you will probably do best with the daily allowance, but add em up to be sure.

Keep the shiney side up, and have a Merry Christmas and a Happy Safe Driving New Year,

Darryl S.

I was a truck driver. If you have to drive a certain distance to pick up your truck, your gas is also tax deductible.

Although my belief is that the IRS biggest known mafia in world history. There is no law in the the United States that says that the government can tax the labor of the American people. Call the IRS and ask them they will not answer your question.

You need to hold onto your receipts in case you ever get audited by the IRS. You can also deduct money spent on gas, or any repairs you made to your truck, and any accessories you bought, such as any air freshners, refrigerators for keeping your food, etc. Oh yeah, any license plates for your truck or trailer.

Also included is uniforms, work shoes (steel toe), gloves. If your not reinbursed through your company you can take off overnight stays and meals (there is a per diem allowance). Yes, you need to keep all your receipts, put them in an envelop while your on the road and file them when you get home.
