You can access it on January 1, 2007, but you will need your tax information and your parents tax information. That info comes on W-2 tax forms and is usually mailed by your employer in January or February, so you may have to wait until you get those in the mail. Fill it out as soon as you can. It should only take 30 minutes or less to fill out.

You can start filling out the FAFSA for the 07-08 school year on January 1st, at the stroke of midnight Eastern Standard Time. The deadline for FAFSA range between states. Some have march 1st, april 20th, some have June 30th... But the FAFSA deadline overall is June 30th

First - all FAFSA is FREE. It's an accronym Free Application for Federal Student Aid. There are some websites out there disguised as FAFSA sites, that charge $ to file. Stay away. File your FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov .
You will need to file as early in January 2007 as possible. Use your 2006 income taxes. If you're under 24, unmarried and have no dependents, you'll have to use your parents' income and your own. If your parents are separated or divorced, use the income from the parent you live with only. You have to include that step parent's income if you live with him/her too.
If you have your income taxes done, it will take you about 20 minutes to file. Good luck!

If you're in college, I'd go to the financial aid office after Christmas break is over and the forms should be there. If you're in high school, start stopping your school's guidance councelor's office around the end of January.
Also, the ONLY fafsa form you should fill out is the free one from the government. If a form tells you that you have to pay to get your fafsa form filled out, it's bogus and they're crooked. I don't think that you have to pay to fill out any appications when it comes to loans, but there will be a loan processing fee upon receiveing the loan.

Depends on whether or not you have the information ready. It may take an hour, may take weeks. In either case, I'd suggest you start now because I believe the priority deadline is around mid to end January.

As soon as you and your parents (if you have to put them on it) get your taxes done and/or get your W-2s for 2006.
