How do you do it? Do you smile at everyone? Do you just mind your own business? Do you chat with the person who rings up your merchandise or do you just keep it down to business and then get out of there?

I smile alot. At everyone practicly. It bugs me when people don't smile back. I sometimes chat with people in the checkout line. Sometimes minding your own business is a good thing. But I always smile because it might brighten someones day.

I don't chat that much in public. In fact it is down right rare that I will ever talk to a stranger out of the blue without some common purpose between us.

Somedays I smile at everyone, somedays I don't. Somedays I just keep my head down. I've been told I may suffer from chronic depression, but I think it has more to do with my zodiac sign.

I usually chat with sales associates because, usually, they are nice.

But, I like smiling by people and I, usually, go out of my way to try to make other people smile. I work in an office where I deal with the public all day. If I can make them smile, as well as my co-workers, that is what makes me want to smile.

I don't always choose to chat, but I don't have any trouble with it when I do. I'm naturally very extroverted, and I find it easy to crack a joke or pay a compliment. When I get on a crowded elevator, I will usually break the tension by saying, "Wow, I'm feeling really close to you guys right now," in a sort of sappy tone. People always laugh.

That said, not everyone is comfortable striking up a conversation or making a joke, and when I don't want to chat, I usually just give a big, warm "I know you!" smile (even though I don't). It disarms people.

I am pretty outgoing in public. Sometimes I'll just make comments to people at the store and so forth. I think this is probably easier for me than some people because I spent a year and a half as a missionary, where my primary activity for about 10 hours a day was to talk to people and teach them about Jesus Christ. So I have lots of practice.

I was told a few weeks ago...that I'm just too happy and cheerful! Wow! What do you do with that! And that was while I was working! So that sums up my answer pretty much. Why grumble all the time. Yes I do hate to drive in stupid traffic. I do have the tendency to have the side of me to come out that only the devil likes. But....Too happy..Not! I just love to talk and try to make someone elses day a little better than it was.

It's easier for me now to talk to strangers rather than when I was younger, maybe because I was the suspicious kind or just simply shy. I don't smile a lot but I still get to talk to random people in public. Come to think of it, it's easier for me to talk to someone I don't know rather than to some of those closest to me, (like what I'm doing now). It can be good experience for you to try it, increase your knowledge or just a break from your routine. Good luck!

I don't like to talk to people out in the public. Keep it down to business. They are not that free to talk to us either.

I try to be polite and friendly...it's gotten a lot easier as I've gotten older--I generally smile at cashiers and might make something chit chatty or might not. It depends on what mood I'm in.

I have Asperger's directly related to Autism, but I just smile at people and talk if they talk to me, I'm a cashier though and it seems that most people don't talk to the cashier.

i find it easy to smile at everyone and be cordial, but i don't just strike up random conversations with people, no. however, it is easy to be friendly and polite to everyone without necessarily being called "outgoing."
