I'm a 16 year old girl and I'm a figure skater. I used to be able to do all my jumps up to my double lutz really well. However, in the past year, I've become scared to do my double flip and lutz. I want to do them, and my singles are great. I'm just scared of falling on the doubles. Any suggestions on how I can overcome my fear and land these jumps again?

I recommend practicing off ice (this may be hard to do with the lutz because of the edge but it is at least possible with the flip) and visualizing. See yourself landing the jump over and over again. Also, to help with confidence use a harness at your rink if one is available. With the harness, you feel like you can't fall - and you won't fall as hard - because your coach is holding you. It really helps - trust me. Hope I helped!!

I'm 15 and I have all my jumps up to double lutz almost double axel. I usually am not scared but when I am, I think of being at regionals and if I don't attempt the jump then I will lose, which really helps me. Just don't be afraid becuase if you don't try you'll never be able to land it and then you won't be able to progress in skating.

Also I don't know how often you skate, but it's really hard to get the harder doubles (loop, flip, lutz) consistent unless you practice at least 6 hours a week, it's probably better if you skate about 12 or so.

even though you are scared of falling you should try the jumps anyways because you'll never get to it if you don't try because of the fear of falling. i haven't started learning any doubles except for the double salchow, but when i did my axel i knew i was going to fall but i kept doing the jump anyways and as a result i fell 99% of the time. but the good news is that none of those falls ever hurt at all (crash pads are the greatest!)

well that's hard to answer cuz i haven't learned them yet but i never liked doing my loop jumps cuz i don't really think of being in the air as my fave place to be. my coach said that once u learn it and practice it a lot u get used to it and it'll be fun after a while. keep practicing and i go 2 sk8 3 times a week so i get some practice but u should at least go 2 times a week.

I'm no figure skater but I can tell you this from snowboarding experience: 1.) Visualize the jump in your mind and see yourself sticking it every time. 2.) Trust yourself, you're a great, capable, awesome athlete. Remember that every time you step on the ice. 3.)You've fallen before. It hurts but you're still here. Keep trying until you've nailed it. 4.) Have fun!
