i have a really bad bright pink pimple about a centimeter below my lips. It is really bugging me. Would it be safer to use acne treatment and wait for it to go away (i've already had it about a week and a half) or should I pop it?

usually, if the tip of the pimple has a little bulge of white, then it's ready to be popped. there's a safe way to pop pimples by using a sterile needle (hold it over a flame to sterilize) and then just pricking the tip so the white juice bursts out. then take a cotton ball and dab tea tree oil to soothe it.

if this is too high-maintenance, just wash your hands very well and gently place one finger just to the left of the pimple and the other just to the right and press. the white stuff will come out, but if it bleeds then stop immediately. you can find witch hazel (it's a natural astringent, very handy for cuts and toner) at any drugstore and just dab that on afterwards.

be gentle and remember to apply enough pressure so that only the yucky yellowy-white juice comes out. if it's still red, leave it alone! drinking plenty of water helps with pimples more than people think.

There are a few safe at home things you can do to help get rid of your pustule/pimple. First off try using warm wet washcloths a few times a day to open up the clogged pore. Make sure it is warm, but not hot. You do not want to burn your skin. The chin area is not very forgiving as far as scars go. Try not to pick at this. Do not use hydrogen peroxide as it has shown to irritate the healthy tissue. Keep your skin clean, use an antibacterial face wash, one that also has salicylic acid in it. You can try and spot treat it with acne medication, but stay away from ones that contain hydrogen peroxide.

If it has a white head, then pop it.
It is easier and less painful if you use a needle and lightly poke the white part a few times. Be careful not to push it in too far though.

From what I read, it is safe to pop them after they have the white head and they will heal faster once the infected part inside is released.

I have a joke about pimples " are going going to get your picture taken" translated stop worrying, pop it and it will go away. Stress elevates acne.

Pop it.
The scar will last, but not forever. Probably for a few weeks.
And after you pop it, put some alcohol on it to kill the bacteria so it won't spread to other areas.

popping a pimple may often leave scars on the flesh. those scars are more permanent than that pimple going away on it's own would be. but it's your face, you choose.

help it to raise to a head by hot packing the area 3-5 times per day.
