Well I think most of it has to do with age and if you are older or younger. I found that if you are the oldest you tend to be more assertive and open to other people whereas if you were the middle child maybe they’re quieter. And the youngest is just a pain in the butt!!
But it’s not always like this. There are few who are different, I just noticed this.
And of course if you are a girl and you have an older brother you re going to have different personalities. That’s how it is =]

Quite simple my young Watson. Epigram: "Boys and girls are the same species, must think alike, both have a head on their shoulders". Difference is, women use both sides of brain, men use one, well [good]. Lucky for you being the first born. Big bro./sis. gets the best genes, younger siblings get what's left, frequently [debateable]. Girls mature sooner than boys. More women, in colleges, gradutating, have higher scores than men. When your 50 years old and 'brother' is 44, won't think much differently [experience] than 'bubby' does [except boy/girl & environment (time when growing up) difference]. He's catching up, growing up soon, maybe. Remember, yous' have the same blood. More in common than you realize, yet. Add/compare astrological signs to/with equation [personality] to understand 'opposites'. "Love thy fellow man". Kids grow up & don't forget if your 'mean' or supportive. Anyone older, knows more. You can 'mentor' someone seven years younger. 'Learn' the young. Peace! MarkM ['For the Brotherhood']

my sister:

career-oriented

likes to shop (not very fun to me)
Yea we're opposites. There must be at least 2 things you guys might have in common, despite the age difference.

Im much more laid back than my brother, and he is much less of a slacker than me. We're both pretty athletic and like some of the same things so i dont think we're total opposites. He looks up to me in a way.

May Allah help you in winning the heart of your parents. Quran says " Be kind to your parents and do not say even 'Uf' to them and lower your wings to cover them( a gesture of love)". So there is no room to engage in a shouting match with your father or mom. Be patient, read holy Quran with meaning and pray to Allah. He surely will help you by melting his hard heart for you. The best thing in Islam is that you are not alone, Allah is always with you and listens to your small and big prayers and turns them in to reality. Just a few months of hardship to assure Allah that you are serious in obeying His commands and Divine succour will surely come. M J Iqbal

My bro is 10 and i'm 14... our schools are connected... we always seem to say the same thing at the same time (and we always say, ":Great minds think alike!!")... we play the same games, kinda... we hang out together, but we can't stand each other at times. Complete opposites? Quite the contrary.

Your brother is also being a guy, too.
I have a sister and she is like you, while-as, I am a female, but yet, I am a lot like your brother. It all depends on if you are the youngest or the oldest as well. I am the oldest of my sister and myself.

Yes I'm a complete opposite of my brother and I hate it because we haven't talked in over two years because of it and we haven't gotton along in almost eight years.
Try to mantain a good relationship, don't get too wrapped in your life.
