The real heroes are the people who drag themselves to low paying job everyday trying to put food on the table for their family. The mother who holds down a full time job as a cashier but manages to get dinner on the table each night and get up at 2 am when the youngest has a nightmare. The little old man, bent over with arthritis who gets in his car every morning, no matter what the weather, to go sit by the hospital bed and hold his wife's hand. The young single father who goes every week end to see his child for just a few hours no matter how many times his ex refuses his visitation. The 16 year girl who is trying to get her High School diploma during the day and takes care of her baby every night.
Each of us has the capability, in a crisis, to commit acts of super strength or bravery. But crisis, thank God, usually only last for a few brief moments. The true heroes are those of us who face the adversity in life that we are dealt with courage and inner strength. The true heroes are those among us who do what has to be done day after day after. The true heroes are those of us who keep going, who don't take the easy ways out, who keep trying, who preserver over the long haul!

The real hero's. They are the paramedics who are the first responders to a life and death emergency. Your first exposure to first aid. The 911 police dispatcher that you call when you are in trouble. The cop or fireman who responds and takes over the problem. The doctors in the trauma centers that can sew your limbs back on after you are involved in an injury accident of some sort.
The kid who isn't afraid to enlist in the service whether he goes to war or not.
The person who feeds a homeless man for one night.
The person who takes a moment to hold a door open for someone.
There are many hero's not just military.

The real hero's are people who work to serve and protect. They answer to a different call other than the paycheck. They may be military, fireman, or a policeman.

Not everyone in Iraq is a hero, and not all heroes are in Iraq. The theater of operations extends much farther than most people know. I have one quote that I live by, "Soldiers fight for their country, heroes die for theirs." ~Unknown

A hero is someone who has the courage to do what they are suppose to do, even if they don't want to (because it is difficult or dangerous). They are all around us, it's just that the news media makes its money by reporting negative things and reporting on people who are "victims".
