I've looked in my dictionary and it says to say "jarga" but that
doesn't make sence b/c when I told my cousin ( i was trying to explain the word slang to her) she doesn't know what i'm talking about. If there is any one that can help me describe this to her it would be great! Also can you add some spanish slang words to go with it (preferably South American/ but NE kind is ok).

The correct translation for slang in spanish is "jerga" or "argot". If you need to explain, its the individual and distinctive way a community speak a language.
Some spanish slang:
Me la pela! - I dont give a damn.
A huevos! - It can mean either yes or forced to do something.
Mariposon - gay
Meter zizaña - intent to offend or bother a person.

I use the word "dialecto" when I talk about slang. Just explain that it is like certain areas speak certain dialectos "slang" and maybe your cousin will understand better that way.
One slang word is chilango, which is someone from DF (Mexico City) .

I think "jerga" is not an accurate translation, it applies more to "jargon".
"Lenguaje popular" reflects better the meaning.
Some slang words:
Trucho (Argentina, Uruguay)= phony = Bamba (Peru)
Pata (Peru) = Friend, guy
Chapines (Central america) = people from Guatemala
Enchincharse (Argentina) = To get mad
Pololo (Chile) = boyfriend

"lenguaje popular" or "lenguaje vulgar" would be better. The other word is "jerga", not "jarga"!
