There's two kinds of confidence: the first kind comes due to continued success at something you care about. It's what forms the foundation of a good leader. The second kind comes from surrounding yourself with sycophants who leach off of you and only kiss your *** (think celebrities and athletes). It's what forms the foundation of a paranoid, shell-of-a-person.
I'll let you decide on which form is most favorable for long term satisfaction.

You just have to keep telling yourself that other people are only human beings just like you are. They put on their pants the same as you. They are no better nor no worse than you are. If it is girls you are having a problem with, here is what my father used to tell my brothers. You can ask out 100 girls, and be sure that at least one of them will accept you. And it will be worth it in the end.
