A few years ago I got addicted to chocolate. I used to wake up in the morning with a splitting headache and the only way of getting rid of it was to have a bar of chocolate. At that time I could go through 5 or 6 bars a day just to keep the headaches at bay.

It wasn't so bad then cos I used to go to the gym and work it all off and I weaned myself off them. I'm starting to get the same problem again now but this time I'm really bothered about the effect its starting to have on my health and I don't have quite as much time to spend at the gym cos I have 4 young children.

Do I try and wean myself off it or go cold turkey??

,you can get patches to wear on your wrists that smell of vanilla, every time you get a craving you just sniff the patch and the smell takes away the craving. I personally would just try cutting down perhaps have a piece of fruit instead of chocolate & don't keep it in the house, although that may be difficult for you with kids. Good luck

5-6 bars a day is a lot of extra calories. i commend you on wanting to make a change about it. i can kinda relate with chocolate being a weakness of mine too. i have two suggestions. first, i'd try seeing a physician to get to the source of your headaches. i've heard that caffiene (which can be found in chocolate) plays a role in relieving headaches. over the counter pain killers also contain caffiene. so maybe try drinking some tea sweetened with splenda to see if it has the same effect as chocolate. but once again, only a doctor can get to the root of that problem.

second, i'd try to wean myself off little by little. maybe eventually down to one bar a day. one bite size piece a day won't hurt you, and i believe it'll actually be beneficial to keeping your cravings under control. that's pretty much what i do. i eat well for my meals throughout the day. i just eat a few blocks of chocolate sometime during the day (and limit myself to that one instance) to keep myself from binge eating or something. i hope it helps.

dont do nothing untill the new year. Then go cold turkey it will be living hell for about a week [mood swings , headaches, stomach ache etc ] but believe me once you have done it you will feel great. I did this myself. good luck.
