If you have a particular boy in mind and this particular boy already knows you fairly well, then you can ask about a month in advance.
If this guy has no clue that you're checking him out, then wait until 2 weeks before the dance.
When you do decide (and the exact timing is your call), you will need to begin with, "you know, we have a Sadie dance coming up on _______. Do you have a date yet? If not, then you do now!!!"

Well if you plan to go to a dance with him you must talk to him sometimes.....so when you are talking casually bring up what you are doing that weekend and ask if hes going to the dance. If he looks interested in what you are saying ask who hes going with.....say maybe you could go together. But if hes not making eye contact with you before you ask hes not interested ORR if you are too nervous just go with friends and hope it works out on the dance floor.
