...I attended a wonderful Bible church in the 70's, 80's, and 90's. The focus of this church then was equipping the saints for the work of service. We were trained and discipled in many ways - with courses in evangelism, apologetics, Biblical counseling, and children's ministry. (One couple who excelled were tested with Bible college students and ranked like 2nd and 12th. Our church had really taught them well).
...This equipping focus doesn't seem to be around as much now.
...Can anyone explain why, or have any idea what is happening in evangelical churches? Are people still being trained for ministry? What is the focus today? What is the main ministry in any church where the Bible is taught and Jesus Christ is preached?

I am sorry you have not found what you cherished earlier. The move these days is toward Mega-churches, often built around the charisma of the preacher. Many of these have institutes for pastors. Some of them have apprenticeship type training for pastors. A few of them have "seminaries."
Discipleship training is available though you may have to look for it. There is a program in WA state "Certified Lay Ministry" which has proven to be immensely popular.

Many of the churches of that era had been taken over by antichrist dispensationalists who were trained in banker-bought seminaries to cause people to begin to question foundational beliefs such as the virgin birth, and the diety of Christ, and to teach false doctrines, so that the ultimate agenda of those multi-national bankers would be realized. What began in a quiet, dark way in the later part of the 1800s has become a torrent of falsehood in the present day. We are in the last days and the ministries in which God has raised up pastors after his own heart are end time ministries which expose false doctrine and lead people back to the faith once delivered.

Most churches today embrace a "fluffy" Jesus that makes no demands of them. It's all about how each person "feels." It isn't about discipleship or evangelism. It's about experiences and feelings. The focus is on self, rather than Christ and what He did for us. It's like, "Isn't God lucky to have saints like us?"

Paul's words are a mere whisper in the church today... "For the time will come when people will not put up with healthy doctrine but with itching ears will surround themselves with teachers who cater to their own needs. They will refuse to listen to the truth and will turn to myths." (II Timothy 4:3-4)

No. The church is here for one reason only and that is to keep the people stupid. You have to have your own personal relationship with the creator. To know that you know if you ask the father will discipleship you. Do we really know what we the people stand for in our history? Now it them the government.... control of everything even the churches. discipleship is what you make it to be. We do not need a pastor or evangelist to tell us how to reach the people it in our interbeing we know we just have to ask for it to be brought out. The church that is the building you go to can say a couple of scriptures and talk 2 hour on life but there not teaching what they should teach. We don't need some one to tell us that we are blessed we know that and that God loves us we know these things. Their only lining their pockets with the tax of the people when some of them do not even pay taxed C105-3a I think that's correct. but, they tell you to pay your taxes that we don't have to pay. Only if you consider your self a citzen which most people do. Bottom line is that the church is full of.......

i'm so satisfied you extra this up. i think of lots of people sense this way. one in each of those church you went to is observed as "understand religion" This doctrine promotes what people call "prosperity" which says that God needs to make people wealthy and in case you supply extra interior the offering he will try this. lots of the church has been stimulated by ability of this style of thinking and that i in my opinion locate it disgusting for in basic terms the justifications you record. no longer all "evangelicals" are that way although, usually in basic terms a definite branch of Charismatics customary because of the fact the understand religion. Rick Warren, as an occasion, is a properly customary evangelical who provides away all the money from his super e book sales. James Robison helps hungry people international extensive, and so on. the actual spirit of evangelical Christianity is giving, and those adult adult males have corrupted it.

Most of the churches have become to worldly. They are full of lost people who can not swallow the true meat of the word.
