The only real con is the cost. Black granite looks fabulous - any granite looks great, wears well and is practical. A lot of care to be taken when fitting it, try not to drop anything super heavy on it (risk of cracking) - that's all. Use a cleaner meant for natural stone. Enjoy!

Well, on the pro side, it's a rich look, very chi-chi. It really sets off stainless steel appliances, and a friend of mine also had dark cherry cabinets...VERY cool!! The granite counters also are very nice for rolling out pie dough! LOL!!
On the con side, they are difficult to keep shiny and clean. They really show streaks and stuff, so you're constantly wiping them. They are also pricey.
A good alternative in terms of upkeep and price might be a dark granite-look laminate countertop.

no cons
black granite ( absolute black ) is the the densest of all granites ( only quartz is denser and harder ), so it has a deep luster to it. properly installed it will not crack if you drop pan it. it also the most expensive of granites ( assuming you go #1 grade and not number 2 or 3 ) to install. sure it will show dust and dirt more than other granites, no more than aback truck will show lack of cleaning in the same manner,

Do it.
But before you do, know yourself about types of granite so you don't get the wrong product.
