We would decorate the house the day after Thanksgiving and start our Christmas baking, which we would end up eating and have to do it all over again, and on Christmas Eve we'd drive around looking at Christmas lights until we all fell asleep, I continue to do all our family traditions but the drive on Christmas Eve was always my favorite and my children's too. My husband added a new tradition when we got married, he reads "The night before Christmas" before we go for our drive.
Merry Christmas!

start a tradition...bake cookies for Santa ans let your little one help you...decorate Christmas ornaments together and then hang them on the tree where ever they want. If they put an ornament on the tree, even if it looks a little crazy, leave it there! They remember everything at a young age! The main thing is to do things together. My mom always gets my little girl a pair of PJ's every Christmas! Hope this helps & have a Merry Christmas!

It wasn't so much my mom that made christmas special for me it was my dad. dad always started weeks before baking cookies and making candy and he would always have all of us in the kitchen with him. that was family time and he would tell us stories about whatever he was making " i remember the first time my mom ever made popcorn balls for us....the first time i ever tried to pull taffy it all hardened up on me...." My father was very into cultural traditions during christmas and now i'm the same way. My girls and I are german, norwegian, and irish so we combine all of those traditions into a big celebration. The one that i've noticed my girls enjoying the most of course is the tradition of the julenissen from norway. every day during advent you leave a treat out of the julenissen (christmas elves) and leave your shoes by the fireplace. the julenissen come out at night and eat the treat you left and they fill your shoes with goodies. Old world traditions are always magical.

Christmas eve our doorbell would ring and we would run to open it, and there on the doorstep would be two Little presents for my brother and I . We would get sooooo excited!!! My mom would say maybe one of Santa's elves dropped this off.Every year she would run around outside ring the doorbell, run inside and say " who is at the door"? I now do that for my 3 and 5 year old. they love it.

My mom used to make snow men cookies with those silver balls made out of sugar that are no longer available on the market. I really miss those cookies and would love to find those little balls so I could make them with my son.

I know this isn't that big, but my mom always gave us a new pair of pajamas on christmas eve. We got to open them and wear them on christmas eve. I'm 29 and she still gets me and my sisters new pajamas. She even started buying them for my son.
