That Glad press n seal stuff works great! You can just fold it over the cookies, and seal it so there's no air.

MOST Important: Do not over mix the dough or use too much flour or use more fat/lard.
Bake cookies the minimum amount of time, even though the center may look slightly underbaked. Let cookies stand on baking sheet for one to three minutes to continue to bake, then remove to cooling rack. Store soft cookies in an airtight container. Do not store soft chewy cookies with crisp type cookies.

Sometimes what you can do is after you bake the cookies place them in a warm area covered... and after your oven cools down you can place them in there again to keep soft !
if you want to give them as gifts then right after they cool down bag them and give them out right there and then !! good luck

In addition to keeping cookies tightly covered, you may place a piece of bread with them.

I find that cookies with more butter in them tend to become "harder" faster than those with less butter. So as not to take away from the tastiness of the cookies, bake them on parchment paper. I'm telling you, this makes a HUGE difference in the taste, texture and overall appearance of the cookie. :-)

I think just baking them for a slightly shorter amount of time works well for not letting them get too crunchy. If you want to use bread, you could leave it on until right before you package them so they would at least have some exposure to it before you give them away.

What my mom does is put all of the cookies in a jar with a piece of good bread.

wow, I was going to say to put a piece of bread in with them, but you've already got that covered. :) I don't know... I guess give them to the person soon after taking them out of your tupperware, and telling them how to keep it soft.

Give the additional gift of a terracotta sugar saver! They're little rounds of terracotta with a design on them that absorb can be used to keep your sugar from clumping, and keep your cookies nice and moist!
