I was in a small accident today. the arrow was green for me to turn left, and as i was doing that a woman perpendicular to me was going forward into a parking lot at my workplace. it was raining so when i hit my brakes my car slid into the back of her car, doing minor damage. my damage was even less, a few scratches. the witness who called the police for us and the woman i hit said i should wait on telling my insurance company at least until we get the police report back, because my insurance will go up, and it would be best to just pay for her car to be fixed, because it probably wont be much. however i believe this is unfair, i did hit her vehicle but i had the right a way. the arrow had turned green for me to go left, and she was at a stop sign. i dont feel i should have to pay for anything. also, i dont know whether i should go ahead and call my insurance company or wait til i get the police report. they said over the phone i should have moved the car, but my car almost got

okay, the accident was not my fault. i had the green arrow to go. she did not. she was at a stop sign where she yields to oncoming traffic. and i called my insurance company about 10 minutes ago, they are going to get in contact with her, and will cover everything since i have full coverage .... :)

If you were not cited as being at fault for the accident then your insurance is not in jeopardy of going up. Most insurance companies require that you report a claim within 24-48 hours of the accident in order for your coverage to be valid.

You did the right thing by going ahead and reporting it. That person at the scene who told you not to report it till the police report comes back gave you bad advice. That's not your fault. Just reporting the accident can't increase your rates. Besides that, the police don't make liability decisions; the insurance company does, so they will investigate with other evidence including the police report and make their determination. I know this is after the fact stuff, but hopefully if you ever witness an accident (maybe you witness the cars getting nailed that you wished would happen to the others!) you will not give out the bad advice that you got.

Well, Me and My dad was just in an accident in September... We were making a left hand turn into his friends driveway and there was a car coming but he was speeding excessively. So, we completed the turn and he basically had a bad reaction and went off the road and into the driveway and still hit my dad anyway ooff of the road way.

Now, he completely totalled my dad's truck and his truck. Since he was speeding. Now, the cops came and everything. The cps told both of them he was not going to give them any tickets. Well, low and behold a month later a ticket came for making a lef tturn or some crap like that. Now, this accident was reported to both insurance agencies... Now, the boy that hit us had Geico insurance. Now, his insurance company basically said that the accident wasn't his fault since my dad got a ticket for it... Now, my dad's insurance company completely decided it was the boys fault. So, now we all have to go to court over this mess so that Gieco will pay for a new car for us...

Now, I would report it because it is a bigger crime if you don't. Plus, since you got a police report and if you get a ticket it you might get a point and that will make your insurance go up anyways...

Call the insurance company, she probably will.

1) wake up -- it's YOUR fault.
2) you can pay out of pocket for this if you want to but you are going to flip-out when you see the cost to repair on the estimate.
3) stop trying to place the blame somewhere else -- my advice would be to contact your insurance ASAP. You would be amazed at the number of people who will turn into monsters after being in an accident. Your insurance company can protect you in case they start screaming neck injuries, lawyers, blah, blah.
4) a police report, while very useful, is NOT the sole determining factor used in investigating an accident.
5) last -- no matter how much your rates go up it will only be a fraction of the amount of damage done to the other car.

Do you live in a no fault state? If so, aren't you both responsible for the damage to your own car. Otherwise I would report it and the police report would tell who is to blame or your insurance company would decide if you are to blame. More then likely there is minor damage to both cars and your deductible would not be meant and you have to pay for your own car. You really should report any accident to your ins. company because most policies state what to do if you are involved in any type of accident is to call them. For your own protection you should call the ins comp.

If you truly had the green arrow to go, then you had the right of way, and should not be at fault!!!

Sounds to ME like the other driver failed to yield right of way. Their insurance should be paying for this accident, not yours.

Are the Answers folks smoking crack this morning or what?

Your description of the accident is terrible and long.
I would say YOU are at fault if you hit the rear of anybody for any reason.

PS
I dont smoke crack but her description sucks.
I just went by her desecription that she hit somebody in the rear.
