Well at some point in life, there comes a time when a person will realizes that not all the knowledge and science in the world can fix a life issue that means so much to us, for example a marriage that is breaking up that you want to work, a divorce where you still love the other person but she just wants to give up, and perhaps a young daughter that you found out has an incurable disease. She is so close to your heart.
At this point, we find ourselves helpless despite all that we think we know, how strong we are, and how much money we have. All of our earthly material resources just won't do. A miracle is needed, a spiritual resources that is not of ourselves and beyond more than we can imagine.
God simply promises the good news that 'acknowledge Him in all your ways and he will make your path straight". Simple believing this is like God promising you that things are going to be alright if we just acknowledge him with our plans and desires and trust HIM. He will take control of the situation and do battle for you.
When this trust and faith is placed in HIS hands, you are tapping into a SUPERNATURAL POWER. I am talking about tapping on the Creator who created everything in the Universe! How powerful is that compare to our limited science?
And what an amazing privillege to have HIS help in trials big, small, and all of your needs in between.
If you don't believe it, try it, test it, and between you and HIM see how the living God will reach out to you as you sincerely ask HIM to help you to understand. He honors those who seek HIM. Americans believe in hope, and God is Hope in the darkness of darknesses.

the same reason people of ancient times past have---they can't accept that this is all there is.
I however illogically believe there is more so I keep on believing in God. Do I accept that I could be wrong -yes, does that in any way affect my belief-no.
the reason is because NO ONE REALLY KNOWS either way, science isn't everything-neither is religion.
believe what you want and give everyone else the same right, because in the end faith dies with you and after death is when your faith is supposed matter for ETERNITY as far as most religions are concerned.
streets of gold or pits of fire have no effect on my belief-it isn't about the afterlife for me it is the PRESENT LIFE and how I treat those in my world
happy holidays

All I have to say WOW! Look 10 posts above mine. Jeanette S. thinks she makes up 1% of the population. That means she believes there are only 100 Americans.
This is the mentality of the people who believe in god.

first of all who ever told you they believe in god. they jus say they do to make themselves believe that they believe that theres god. actually if u count the % again it should be about 90% of those who say they believe and about 10% of those who really belive in god, and 10% are like between.id say 35% of americans believe in god. and 95 % is too big of a number remember there other religions in america excluding christianity. did u know that 45% of the world is christian??? its hard to belive but true..

Well, think of it this way why if there is a God would this being be opposed to knowledge or science? These are the attribute of self aware and evolving species and are to be looked for and welcomed when they appear.

Because God is an easier thing to believe.
Isn't it easier to believe that God magically created the earth, instead of believing in the one in a billionth chance of the big bang happening?

Why not cover you bases when someone asks the question. What can it hurt to say "yes".
Besides you don't need to say you think he is the cruel and jealous Old Testament God, stalking the deserts of the Middle East demanding burnt offerings and then deciding to have his favorite Son tortured and murdered.

Where did you get that figure from? Most Americans or people in so called Christian countries do not believe in the Almighty God, but just in the Almighty Dollar or Almighty Mamon.

Because nobody has to define what God is to them when they acknowledge their belief. It's easy to say "yes," to something so broad. But if you started demanding they define what God is to them, and what parts they believe in and what parts they don't, you'd probably get answers all over the map.

Knowledge and science dovetail with the belief in God. Pseudo sciences like astrology, phrenology and evolution are not based on the scientific method. They are just crack pot theories, like alien abductions.
