My relatives are of Slovak heritage. Lots of times, individual immigrant families call things by different names or they have different recipes.

The dish my relatives call bobalki is basically little balls of bread dough (about 1" around) that are prepared with a lot of poppy seeds in a somewhat sweet sauce. (therefore, similar to dumplings)

They also make a dish that I love but I can't remember what they call it. Basically, they make some yeast dough into a round (like pizza, but thicker) and top some of them with sauerkraut, some with cottage cheese, and some with cooked prunes.

No, and half my family is Polish. There are sauerkraut dumplings. Dumplings are called Periogi (pear-o-gees). You could make a side dish of kraut and cook Periogi's. A great topping for periogi's is bacon and sauteed onions. Put them in a bowl with a spoon and let people put what the want on top. And the best topping - Sour cream. Mmmmmmmmmm..........

I beleive you have the wrong word.
Pierogi is what we call the dumpling. I believe it's a potato dumpling served with sauerkraut. (Pierogi - Polish style dumplings steamed on the grill and filled with your choice of lightly seasoned ground sirloin, potato with Farmer's Cheese or sauerkraut with mushrooms.) Baklava isn't polish.....

Golabki - Meat and rice combination wrapped in tender cabbage leaves, smothered in homemade tomato sauce.
