Yes, they know. So buy a new toy for the cats you like the least, and give them hugs. Tell them with your voice that you love them, and that they are special. They understand. Don't let the cat you like have any of the new toys to play with and don't let it eat or drink out of the other cats dishes. Give it her own. They know . I have had cats for 30 years. Tell the other cats all the time. That they are number one. That the other cat just seems to need more attention. Be sure to get the toys and spread on the charm. The other cats will be happy again. Do this every once in a while.

If you're showing too much affection to one, the others will began to notice. I know this because I have two cats, a female persian (my favorite)and a male Serengeti. My husband and I try to dish out as much affection as we can but every time I go to touch Persia, the other one would come and meow and rub all over me and sometime, he'd try and push her off of me so he could lie next to me. So basically, if they see it, they will definitely start getting the hint. But I"m pretty sure they'll all love you just the same. My babies love me...

My 8 year old is my number one cat. He knows it and number two cat knows it and accepts it becuase he gets other compensatons. Like, he gets to sit or lie down on my lap whenever he wants to - and that's becuase number one cat is too dignified to do that now. :)
Lucky for me that the two cats each have their own favorite things to do with me... so, jealousies are at a minimum.

I don't think they can sense it but they are smart enough to notice it. If you show more love care and/or attention to that particular cat the others will take a hint.
