stick to only 2 or maybe 3 colours, no more,
a glass table is a good idea too
buy matching ornaments or pictures, but very few of them ofcourse.
however minimalist does not mean have a bare room, it just needs to be un-cluttered and well arranged.
Buying the right furniture is essential, a plain white couch fits in well usually.

Remove all clutter. Remove all personal items as though no one lives there. Clear all furniture and take furniture out that doesn't serve a purpose in the room. Add only one or two things that make a statement to the tops of furniture, nothing too loud or too intrusive. Keep window treatments to the minimum, just shades or plain panels. Place very special pics on walls, maybe a grouping of black and white photos. That's about it. Just like the words say...

Have a household sale and tell them everything that's not nailed down, is for sale.
You'll make a ton of $$$$$ and you'll be a minimalist after that!

You can come look at my house. No clutter anywhere and very little furniture. It is wonderfull. I have moved a few times in the past few years and it is not fun. Having so much stuff is unnecessary.

Everything should be of similar colour and no nick-knacks, just a few choice pieces of modern art.
